You also need jackd2 installed. I also had trouble with this. It seems that there is some wierd trickery in the libjack-dev package if you've installed it, then upgraded it. It worked fine for me on clean installs.

maybe you need to install jack-dev.
Also is it jack or jack2 installed ?
