Yes, all the time.. Tried in my studio on another system with Ubuntu 9.10 and pd extended 0.42.5 20100309. There the problem does not occur.. It basically could be Ubuntu Lucid (it's a pretty much fresh system where I have this problem) but it's strange how, as soon as I hit enter (in the commandline using 'pdextended -noaudio' or without that noaudio tag), the audio of rhytmbox goes off.. And not on that ubuntu 9.10 install.

I just tryed:
- started mocp or vlc playing some mp3
- start pdextended with -noaudio
Everything works, nothing stops the audio when pd is loaded, I can even send messages to mocp and control it. (mocp is using alsa)
I use ubuntu 9.10rt and pdextended is "Pd version 0.42-5extended-20100530"
Just a parallel though:
- cvlc can use jack :) So you could hook everything with audio and still
use those apps. I have used pd to control both vlc and mocp (my favourite linux player) and didn't require to start pd without audio 'cause all of them accept jack.

From PD I want to control some audio streams playing in cvlc via the shell object. For a change I DO want to use PulseAudio and I don't want PD to make sound! If I start PD (off course without pasuspend) with -noaudio it still automatically takes away pulseaudio. How can I start PD extended without it trying to influence anything audio, so not touching oss/alsa/jack/pulseaudio or whatever stops PulseAudio?
