One question though:
when I try to start pd, I whines that it couldn't open /dev/dsp, but the redhat soundcard config utility worked fine, I could hear the sample (it's a standard sb16 pci). My linux geek buddy said it might have to do with permissions, but without the root password and/or more time, he couldn't be sure. . .any suggestions?
hm. my sb16 is automatically recognized and doing fine without touching the soundcard config ... actually there's no root password in knoppix you can do a "sudo bash" for full root-access.
