You can rely on it all right... I just caution against over-using it as a matter of style; it's more readable if the "+~" is explicit. Also, Pd makes no attempt to re-use the sums if you add the same signals more than once.

it appears that outlet~ and inlet~ autosum their inputs, as does dac~.
it seems most objects (all?) that have a signal input do this. i often use this, but i believe miller once recommended not to rely on it..
