Yes Gabriel... I talk about... sound and midi works fine with Alsa...no problems with midi controllers
Delay and latency... compile your distro with low latency kernel...maybe with unetbooting...

I removed pulseaudio and installed esound and now ADC works perfect!!
thanks all for your help!
latest ubuntu works very well even on this old computer but be aware of the pulseaudio issues. i think it should be removed on furthers releases
(now i'll be trying to set up MIDI and HID on this days)

great! i'll check that...
however, i tried before to switch to ALSA, JACK, etc on the puredata audio configuration with no results.. maybe it's a deeper issue, sort of a conflict, i'll follow your instructions and see what happens. thanks!

The latest Ubuntu is trying to use the PulseAudio system instead of just ALSA, which was working perfectly fine in my opinion. I had all sorts
of
problems with PulseAudio, along with many other audio users. I followed
the
following post to purge PulseAudio from my system, so I could use ALSA
like
previous versions (and again it works well):

If you have problems with audio or midi, sign up on the Ubuntu forums
and
let them know. I'm sure you'll get some decent guidance.

Hi,
Tried to launch pd as root ?
Or $sudo chmod 755 /dev/#### (replace #### by the hid device you want to use)
The hid problem is probably that as user you don't have the right to read the hid pseudofile.
bye

i'm on linux recently, with a REALLY OLDER hardware than you..
tried fluxbuntu (careful, the repositories were migrated.. see
ubuntu
gutsy), works very well..
and now i'm with the last ubuntu 9.04 and i'm very suprised to see that it works fine on my old thinkpad a22p!!!
THE BAD SIDE:
- the audio input does not work (on windows it was fine)
- can't figure it out to make work hids and midi inputs :( yeah, it
hurts
- had to use the previous kernel, the last one killed my wireless
connection
puppy looks good..
