Hmm... I looked at the "new&old" thing and can't understand what's going on at all. Anyway, I'm hoping to treat the old behavior as "obsolete" and make it impossible to make old-style ones, but still support old-style ones in peoples' patches.

Ah, that's why this functionality doesn't work anymore!! The Properties panel should to be changed, too, I suggest. Currently "new&old" is still the default there, which is very confusing. Or has this already happened in 0.38?
