My favorite quote from Francoeur is "ma poupée en gyprock" ("my plasterboard doll"). 80's rock poetry...
Using PD instead of Max is very challenging in some contexts where most people uses Max; at some point there's no arguments left to explain why PD is a better choice other than stating that ugliness is the most prominent feature of free softwares. Of course jMax is not handicaped by this essential feature. ( B.T.W., have you seen DIP for jMax? http://www.dacreation.com/dips.html http://sourceforge.net/projects/dipsforjmax/ )
PD's gui is not ugly, it is simple and is lacking some useful features. But the more I try FLTK, the more I like it. SpiralSynth, SpiralLoops and spiralsynthmodular have "nice" GUIs made with FLTK. There's even a tcl/tk binding for FLTK 1.* : http://pages.infinit.net/cclients/files/fltk.html -- Marc
