i installed cygwin with all of the developers packages , however i am not that familiar with gcc , or using cygwin to produce dlls . just curious if some one had already been through the hard part of finding all the infomation regarding dll building . i will look into it further at some point [probably any time in the near future, perhaps in the summer] and post what i have learned .

have you tried installing the whole (huge) cygwin pacakge? it comes with versions of gcc etc, which i guess probably automatically link with the cygwin1.dll
i used to use cygwin at work, but we didnt actually use it with any other windows software so i dont know much more than that...

hi ,
i am looking at alot of the linux externals out there and remeber that i was going to try to get some of these externals compiled with cygwin for such*nix functions as "pthreads", and *nix style file directories . However, i seem to be having problems figuring how exactly to compile these externals with the cygwin1.dll , or rather to use it. I know that some how i need a.lib file or equavlent to link with , what i dont know is how to create one. So i was just posting to see if any one had this kind of knowledge available to them and could help me out .
thanks .
