Guenter (et al) - I tried all recent pd's for MIDI on my RedHat5.1/OSS system: 23-4 seg faults on MIDI out, only 23-4 BUT it seems I lost all MIDI function back at pd 23-1 !
Does this mean, 0.23-1 works, and 0.23-2 and 0.23-3 donĀ“t, and finally 0.23-4 segfaults (getting worse :)). I think it is rather a problem with the linux MIDI part, which is located in the linux subdirectory. I have reports that pd-0.23-2 works. I have to look what is different between 0.23-1 and 0.23-2.
After all, the differences between 0.23-1 and 0.23-4 are minimal in respect to functionality of pd, they were rather intended for Linux specific changes.
When I diff the x_midi.c, what I see is that 22 -> 23 involved a move from treating MIDI data as ints to treating them as floats. Perhaps somehow this lies at the root of the in-effective midi objects on my system.
How does this ineffectiveness show itself ? The step from pd-0.22 to pd-0.23 was rather big, but probably only Miller and Mark can shed some light on what really changed.
I will try to look into it more this weekend.
I should check myself some MIDI gear and work on it too, maybe Wini can help us out and tell, what I have done wrong in the newest version.
