a fine card is the 3DProphet Hercules MX. it's a geforce II [nvidia chipset] 32 or 64 MB of fast graphics ram and has a dual display with tv out. it's cheap where i live - don't know how they fare where you are. the wide popularity of this card amongst gamers sould ensure you'll get the drivers you need - though i know that linux also likes this card under the generic nvidia driver.

it's also a lovely metallic blue colour

this is all good info since i'm setting up a linux box right now for pd/GEM and have yet to buy a video card. here are my questions at this point:
- does nVidia offer a 'dual head' card like the matrox 400/450? i
would prefer to have a s-video out for the GEM info on the card as well.
- is anyone using two video cards in linux? is this possible to do?
any further info would help me (and others) out a lot.
thanks chris

Doesn't nVidia provide only binary drivers? I prefer Matrox, they give

specs and let the community do the coding. bye,
I agree on that, and the free drivers are more stable too, but if you really have to go for speed ...... use nVidia
