hello,
i have the same problem. pd is looking for a /dev/midi0, but i've only got a /dev/midi1. so, a crapppy solution is to create an alias : ln -s /dev/midi1 /dev/midi0 and everything work as expected...

I'm anxious for a reply to this because I am also using ubuntu Breezy and I am having the same problem. I tried Steiner's Pd-0.38.4-extended-RC7 and suddenly the MIDI worked!...but I need JACK support and RC7 doesn't have that...so I thought I'd build my own Pd, figuring some necessary compiling option was missing in the ubuntu Breezy binary...but I can't figure out what that option that is missing is...and my own builds of Pd aren't working with MIDI either.
I am trying to compile Pd v0.38.4 to keep everything compatible...

Hello!
I am trying to get a MIDI keyboard connected via USB with a midisport uno interface to talk to PD. I get midi data with 'cat /dev/midi1', and 'csound --sched -d -o dac --midi-device=1' also hears what I play, but the "Test Audio and MIDI" patch in PD doesn't respond to the input.
I think the correct call would be 'pd -mididev 2' but I also tried several other combinations such as pd (no arguments) pd -mididev N (for N=0,1,2,3) pd -alsa -mididev N pd -oss -mididev N pd -jack -mididev N (after running 'jackd -R -d alsa -P -r 44100 -p 64 -n 4')
and none of them work.
I am using PD 0.38.4 in Linux (Kubuntu breezy), Kernel 2.6.12 and ALSA v1.0.9. I am not sure which information is relevant, so I include below the contents of /dev/sndstat, /proc/asound/devices and part of the output of lsmod concerning sound.
I appreciate your help and thank you in advance,
with best regards,
