Yes, basically it is for a head mounted device. I found the sony glasses in question, but I wonder if I could find the monitors as an apart component to built my own glasses. Based on the fact that the cheapest webcam are around 40 Euros, and that you can actually find the 'iris' component for 23 euros, I thought that I could find the screens alone for a good price. Thanks

hmm... usb video output is pretty rare. normally you will have to get a video out card, or something that can take a vga output.
tho there is this usb video in/out (apparently) thing that i know nothing about: http://www.eskapelabs.com/myvideo.html
1x1 inch screens aren't very common. 3x4 screens are kind of common and you can find them on ebay as in car lcd displays. these are common amongst the DIY video projector crowd: http://fender410.tripod.com/
a really expensive way of getting almost what you want is to get hold of either of the sony headmounted displays (glasstron). (random google link)

there are two models that i know of, different most importantly by about a factor of 2 in vertical resolution of the screens. made for tv, somewhat useless for data projection. something like 320x200.
there are some competing head mounted display products too, but i forget the names. search for a glasstron review on a devent hardware review and they will probably mention them in comparison.
if you find something else more appropriate please email me.. just because it sounds cool ;)
