I have tryed to install mandrake (I think 9, about a year ago) on it, but could not figure out how to get the laptop screen driver installed, so I went back to windows.
problem is fixable and I guess you will have much more fun with old hardware by using Linux on it than by using DOS or Windows.
This is somewhat anecdotal and I have no numbers to back it up, but way back when my live rig used to consist of a pentium running home brew looping software (before i found out about pd) I found that under linux I could only get it to perform as well as the same software on the dos box if i switched off every uneccesary process and ran in single user mode. I guess this is self evident, but something that might be useful for those wanting to run pd on old hardware. Running as root with the then 'low latency' patches was a help too. Not sure what the kernel scene is like now though.
Best regards,
Chris.
