Thanks for the link, although that just looks to be a video of someone playing with the help patch :)
I am worried that I am trying to do something which is a bad idea - I want to use PD to trigger little MIDI loops, and potentially adjust the midi data on the way out, and/or change looping points at runtime (etc). Is there a better approach to do this in PD, or is [seq] the best way? Or is this something that noone does and I may find is less workable than I was hoping?
I am compelled by the idea of generating the midi loops elsewhere in fully-featured sequencers, but utilising PD for interacting/triggering/looping/processing them in a more flexible manner than sequencers allow... I would be grateful for any suggestions.
I think it may simply be that midiout is not working too well for me, I will further investigate that.
Is it possible that not many people are using [midiout] either?
thanks again Rua HM.

I guess a lot of people don't use [seq]. This video looks useful:

If you improve the docs, please submit them to the patch tracker so that we can include it in the SVN repository.

I didn't get any responses to my previous message - was it filtered away due to links in my sig? Anyway, reposting with a bit more info. This all relates to pd-extended 0.40.3 on various platforms
I am unable to get the seq help patch to work correctly for playback on linux. I am running 64studio, a variant of debian. The "test audio and midi" patch produces midi notes so I know that midi is working. Note that test audio and midi uses noteout, whereas seq test uses midiout.
I have succesfully had the seq help patch playback notes on OS X. I tried on windows and was unable to get seq help to produce notes when playing back the test midi file; again, test audio and midi was successful.
Any ideas? do i have a problem with the midiout object? The editor with seq shows some note data has been successfully read. Can someone give me some tips on how to work through this problem?
thanks Rua HM.

I'm having trouble getting seq to work - I'm using pd-extended 0.40.3 running on linux/debian/64studio.
I have the midi outs of PD connected to amSynth via ALSA midi in JACK (QJackCtl).
noteout in "test audio and midi" works ok, and plays notes on amSynth, but the seq test patch, routed to midiout, doesn't seem to produce any notes.
It is producing something, as I connected things randomly up to a noteout and was able to make some noises..
Can someone give me some pointers on why midiout (or seq?) might be misbehaving? Can someone else running 0.40.3 on linux check that the seq-help patch is working for them?
Thanks Rua HM
