another possibility: use "onebang" to filter out repeat keyvalues
try this:
#N canvas 0 0 454 304 10; #X obj 93 54 key; #X obj 162 53 keyup; #X obj 93 81 sel 113; #X obj 93 147 onebang; #X obj 162 80 sel 113; #X msg 93 174 on; #X msg 162 178 off; #X obj 110 114 loadbang; #X text 36 80 press q; #X obj 93 211 print; #X connect 0 0 2 0; #X connect 1 0 4 0; #X connect 2 0 3 0; #X connect 3 0 5 0; #X connect 4 0 3 1; #X connect 4 0 6 0; #X connect 5 0 9 0; #X connect 6 0 9 0; #X connect 7 0 3 1;

Thanks a lot, I put the "keyboard repeat rate" to 0, and it seems to work for now. Thanks again, Carlos

i use os x, and have set my system preferences so that the keyboard repeat rate is set to 'never'.
i asked this question a while ago, and some people sent patches that used [timer] to limit 're-bangs'. but there always seemed to be stray bangs that sneaked through.
if anyone knows a real answer to this question, i am also very keen to hear it.
thanks
