I am definitely interested, as well as others. We should set up a Pd
night in the near future, with perhaps an intro to Pd as well. I would
happily teach that.
Also, I could see if I could host a night at ITP/NYU
(http://itp.nyu.edu ). Its a media arts program, and we host things
like this from time to time. I just finished my masters there, but I
could still organize an event there, esp. with help from friends who
are currently students. Its not a bar or club, but a different kind of
venue might be a welcome change.

If you (or anyone!) are interested in doing occasional pd workshops
(we could to a series even.. people want to know as much as
possible!), share (http://share.dj) is a good place actually..We hold weekly jam sessions on sunday (for those who dont know), and
have had occasional workshops (Lemur Demos, we have one to hand out to
artists looking to experiment, we had an intro to jitter workshop
which had a very large turnout..), as well as some audio DSP stuff for
people looking for technical know how.geoff, one of the authors of gDAM is getting in to PD as well.. might
be a good place to either do some intro stuff, or more advanced
topics. I was planning on doing a GEM workshop, since I am more of a
visual artist (sic) and dont know enough DSP theory.I know a bunch of people at share who ive gotten interested in Gem/PD,
and would like a tutorial, I just dont think I know enough to give
definitive answers.youre always welcome to stop by and set something up! Unfortunately
share lost its 'home' at openAir bar (new owners), and we are looking
for a new permanent venue so we kind of wander form venue to venue for
now.But we just received NYFA funding, so we will be trying to do
bigger/better/more organized events (like our anyware event) and get a
new home.Anyway, hope to see some of you there :)

The Frylab thing died. It was a free-for-all that dominated by jam
band enthusiasts... oh well... but it would be great to get a
regular Pd thing going in NYC. I know a couple dedicated Pd users
and a quite a few off-and-on users, plus with the media arts programs
in NYC, there is a large potential pool. I just finished by Masters
at ITP/NYU (http://itp.nyu.edu ), there are about 220 students there
(more than half women, I should say), and Max/MSP/Jitter is popular.
Proce55ing has almost completely replaced Director/Flash there, I
figure Pd is next.We should start meeting at another regular event, like Share, then if
we get enough people, branch out on our own..hc

I'm not in NYC these days, but may be moving there in May. They do
video stuff too at Share. And I know there's some folks that go to
Frylab on one of the westside piers. http://frylab.info/ I went once, but wasn't too interested. I've heard there's also some
occasional Pd-ish stuff going on at SubTonic, but that's more
performance than meet and talk. For meet and talk there's some NYC
Audio Artist's group a friend of mine is part of. If that interests
you I could send you his email offlist. But there is a definite shortage. If I move to NYC I'd like to start
a venue for this kind of performance. Maybe more primetime than
sunday night. Keep an eye on the list.-Ian

hi, glad you brought that up. i go to share sometimes (sunday nights are not so good for me) but
i usually do video rather than audio. i'm not very experienced with pd but would like to learn more and

Seems like the main difference in people's experiences meeting
other users is whether or not they live in Europe. I don't think
there's less PDers in the States, but they are much farther
apart, and there's simply no interesting venues for new media art
in the States [festivals and the like] so they never have a
chance to meet each other. This is what it seems to me. The only regular venue for stuff like
this I know of in the whole US is ShareNYC, but I've never seen
another PDer there, though I heard H.C.Steiner has been around. Of
course NYC is a long shot if you live on the west coast, wheras
from what I hear about Europe, you can live in London and be in
Berlin 20EUR and an hour later. Hmmmm... anyone know of any jobs
for a programmer with a specialty in realtime media in Europe ;) ?Europe has higher population density, plus I think there really
are more PDers in Europe. IEM is there. IRCAM is there.-ish
