About the Matrox cards under Linux: I discovered that MGAHALlib, a closed source library, is required for the TV out option, and that 3D hardware acceleration doesn't work on the second monitor. So Matrox cards in a fully GPL compliant Linux environment are good mostly for 2D dual-head operation in VGA mode. 3D is still available on the 1st screen and good enough for non-gamers. http://dri.sourceforge.net/doc/DRIuserguide.html
