i got 2 pci tv cards that have BT8x8 chips (miroPCTV&TerratecTValue), so they "allways" worked under linux...
i havent tried any USB video under linux neither, but this seems to have couple that should work: http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/USBVideo

as long as your device is supported by video4linux you will be able to use it with pdp (and thus pidip)
read: make sure, that your device is supported by linux. chances are high that it is not.
