I just used pd in teaching my class for a lecture "Alternative soundtrack techniques for Time Based Media" and i will say that people didn't mind the colors etc..and i saw a few lights go on when i told them (50/50, FA and CISE) how to use it. I also showed Cecilia, which some felt was more difficult to use then pd. Though, instead of changing pd's appearance i am always voting for ease of operation.
I know this will sound very mspeeee but i would love something simple like "quickrecord" built in. i know its lazy its cheese or what have you but i think that should go into a major release. right from the menu dumps an .aiff or what have you to pd/tmp.aiff
Is this lame?

if we could get it crossplatform, it might change people's mind about Pd? the biggest complaint i hear about Pd is about the ugly GUI.
I believe it wouldn't take so much effort to make Pd look like jMax. I think the most difficult part may be that several (I don't know how many) Pd users are quite attached to the current oldskool look of Pd and are somehow proud of its "minimalistic" two-tone black-and-white style.
Nevertheless I think it would be a good thing to have, at least as an option in the main release of Pd.
