hey,
i'm replying to your post on pd/list. I have an ESI U24XL card, works perfect in Ubuntu Hardy and Ubuntu Hardy studio. Has only 2 ins and 2 outs though. now i'm looking for a multichannel cards; particulary interesting to me seem:
*ESI ESU 1808 **EDIROL UA-101 **TASCAM US-1641
*don't know about tascam, but esi and edirol ussualy have a quite nice support in our beloved os. i'll probably end up buying the low-price (350-400 eur in europe) 18in8out (hm, guess that should suffice for some time) ESI, so i can let you know if it works ok (can take some time though, i'm not all-that-comfortable with money...).
anyway, if you too come across anything interesting (that is: if you find a nice usb card that also works really nice in linux), please let me know!
best regards,
Vasja Progar Slovenia
p.s.: my small esi really works fine - playback and recording aok, latency 10ms +/- 2 tested in pd (but as far as i know the usb protocol, it's about the smallest you can get anyway)
oh, and another thing: i owned an m-audio audiophile usb; disasterous! don't try, i'd say...
