Running filters in parallel doesn't seem to give the best results for an
EQ, because there's some frequency cancellation around the crossover
points where frequency ranges overlap a little but phases don't match.
A set of peak / shelf filters in series doesn't have this problem. (I
don't know about x-equ~, though - only looked at it, didn't listen)
