bonk~ is very well suited to short-duration/fast decay and fast attack sounds, such as african percussions, snare drums, etc
The rhythm_estimator external works with non-percussive musical genres: http://www.cs.tut.fi/sgn/arg/music/jams/ ftp://iem.kug.ac.at/pd/Externals/RHYTHM/ (also included in the CVS)
I think the output of [bonk~] and rhythm_estimator is different.
[bonk~] outputs a note for each detected attack, while rhythm_estimator
outputs a BPM number for a given piece of music (if I remember
correctly).
