Yeah - freetype if you're using GLTT or freetype2 if you're using FTGL.
To may need to force .configure to find them with something like:
./configure --includedir=/usr/include/freetype
Note that Gem requires either GLTT or FTGL, not necessarily both. I use FTGL since I think it'll be the replacement for GLTT someday (maybe), so I have something like:
./configure --enable-gltt=NO --includedir=/usr/local/include/FTGL:/usr/include/freetype2[:other-paths-can-be-added-after-colons]
