like creating a thread? Is out there an example of external using
threading?
i'd rather not go for threads, as they are a pain in the whereever you
want. crossplatform would become much harder.
well, i don't think that the equation "threads == evil", although it
seems to be quite common among pd developers.
- as pd itself uses the pthreads, the only limitation of crossplatform
portability would crossplatform portability issue of pd itself
- flext is offering a nice wrapper for threading libraries
- the equation "threads == locks && locks == evil" is not correct
either. the lock-free fifos that are used for the idle callbacks in
devel make it possible to have a lock-free thread synchronization and
miller is planning to use them in 0.39. and even locks are only
then evil, if a thread is being locked for too long.
cheers ... tim
