Oh. There sure ought to be a way to do that, but I think there isn't at present. It's on my dolist but no idea when I'll get to it.

Hm, why would you want to open a canvas, when there's no GUI to show it, because you switched off the GUI with "-nogui"? I'm a bit puzzled.
