Okay, I put pd 0.23b onto my web site. There is no direct link from
my page yet, but here are the addresses:
http://cybermed.ucsd.edu/mdanks/GEM/pd-0.23b.tar.Zhttp://cybermed.ucsd.edu/mdanks/GEM/pd-0.23b.zip
I talked with the sysadmin at CRCA and they are having network
troubles. He is trying to get them resolved.

hi all
just learned that the indy's line/mic ins and line/phones outs can be
accessed independently / simultaneously, so that there are 4 ins and 4
outs. is there a way to use that feature from pd?

Hi All,
I've finally finished Pd 0.23! I've fixed many serious problems in the
"beta" release and improved the documentation. As CRCA has had some network
trouble in the last week, I finally got it together to integrate the release
with my web page; you can now just hit
http://man104nfs.ucsd.edu/~mpuckett/
and follow the links.
If you have trouble downloading Pd, please write me, although I'll soon
disappear from the internet for the weekend.
Enjoy!
Miller
I have run into the same problem. Please Mark, set up a mirror site to PD
on your Web page.
Many thanks.

I have run into the same problem. I have changed companies recently,
and our new system doesn't send an ident (or something). I think that
the CRCA ftp server is looking for this. The only solution that I have
so far is to telnet to another box with looser ftp access and get the
software through there.
If a lot of people are having this problem, then I can set up a mirror
to pd on my web page.

HI All,
I've finally got a "beta" version of 0.23 out, in the usual place
(~/pub/msp/pd0.23xxx on crca-ftp.ucs.edu.) This was the release in
which I tried to put all potentially incompatible changes for the forseeable
future... at the patch level, you shouldn't see any significant
differences (other than dozens of bug fixes.)
I'm putting out this preliminary version for writers of "externs" who might
want to update them in time for the "real" release.
The main piece of unfinished business is to organize and test all the
example patches on both the SGI and PC, and to update the release
notes and the "readme" -- probably a couple of days' work....
cheers

Gem and Linux

Hello PD/Gemmers,
Well, I managed to lie, cheat and steal my way into
having a functional PD under Linux, although I should have
checked the archives earlier, there was a secret there
that I didn't need, but may have saved me considerable
pain.
It's several hours later, and I have a Gem that will
not get past a certain point. I am compiling the
74 version, the latest one with an explicit linux
version on Guenther's site. No matter what I do,
I cannot find out where the type TIFFRGBAImage is
defined, or where it should be defined so I can
get the appropriate update for that file.
As a result of this, the make in gem/src/Gnu will
not complete, so I can't finish...
Hoping someone will be able to tell me something
clever about what I'm doing that's not clever...
Cheers!

Dear Pure datums,
Maybe I'm too dumb, but I am not getting _any_ success
whatsoever with compiling on a Linux box.
It seems that the makefile.dependencies hates me, the
gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3 is hardwired, I have
only 2.7.2.1. So either new kernel, or what? Is
the patch number that important?
It also seems that there are a lot of includes
that I just do not possess,
/usr/include/gnu/stubs.h
and more. Where can I find these?
I have also in a flight of bravery (yeah, okay, stoopidity)
installed the newest (alpha) release of Tcl/Tk,
am I setting myself up for more trouble? I didn't realise
until I had downloaded the whole 5 meg compressed.
BTW the tests didn't work, is this usual??? :-)
Feeling completely brave I installed in a Win95 machine
too, PD worked but GEM will not start, attempting to
start with
c:/Programme/blah/pd -lib /Programme/blah/gem/Gem
and all other possible variations leads to
pd: /Programme/blah/gem/Gem.dll: couldn't load
Any ideas? I'm a big Max user, and I would like to
try to move over to PD/Gem so as to be able to
look at the details (via linux) and to use the
machines here for something useful. I'd like to get
this to work.
I hope someone can enlightenme soon,
cheers!
