Audio on LinuxPPC and pd?
If so, where is the patch for the broken oss drivers on linuxPPC? or the
code to make pd work on LinuxPPC?
I remember some activity on the list a while ago on this subject.
thanks,
Michael
Hi Kids,
I would appreciate some people helping with a little
pd net experiment - all you would have to do is run alittle
patch with a netsend / netreceive pair in it, doing
a pd ping thing.
of course more interaction - online performative
stuff saturday evening (adelaide, australia time)
is happening and there may be wierdnesses to
mix with..
soon

Watchout: http://gegenschwarzblau.cjb.net/
Hi Kids,
perhaps I am behind the times, a 0.26 release. But I wanted to look
at the error messages in the (non-functioning) midi startup
routines, so I started a recompile with some debug messages.
haha very strange holiday activities i hear you say
so now it doesn't start anymore, it seems that the call to
pd-gui is crashing (calling pd-gui direct segfaults) and
the pd process is waiting around for it forever. starting
pd-gui with some error message fprintfs tells me that
Tk_Main is being called but not calling Tcl_AppInit before
the segfault.
if it helps, gdb tells me it dies in TclSetupEnv, which doesnt
have any man pages on my machine (so probably none).
I am on a RH 5.2 heavily updated to 6.0 and 6.1, tcl/tk
8.0.2, XFree 3.3.3.1-49, mostly pretty standard stuff.
i have now installed 0.29, it runs no problem, but I will
probably need to investigate the midi problems, and recompile
with my own adaptions. thus I would appreciate ideas on what might
not work.
any ideas? what might I have forgotten? please tell!
cheers all,
tim

! Help B92 and the independent media in Yugoslavia:
http://helpB92.xs4all.nl !
Gem 0.82 is out for Windows. I'm sure that the Linux version will be
along shortly (Thank you, Guenter, as always!) I still haven't had anyone
take over the SGI version, so it is still at 0.79. I'm willing to mirror
it, but I can't compile it.
The changes are:
- stereoscopic rendering
- a primitive triangle object
- the particles objects are now frame rate independent
- new particle objects
- more help files
- bug fixes
Make sure to read the release notes in the doc directory for a complete
update. I'm feeling inspired to do some more documentation, especially with
the particle objects, so there may be another point release in a couple of
weeks. As always, changes, bugs, requests, etc. are appreciated.
You can get it at the usual place:

Assuming that new releases get folded in quickly, this sounds good to me.
Miller and I deliberately kept Pd and GEM separate, although it always
causes confusion to new users.
This solves two of the big problems: making sure that the individual
packages are always available and the time commitment on the authors' parts
to deal with it.

With the larger distributions (like GEM), it makes sense to keep them
seperate. In general, I think that the less downloading of packages that
people need to do, the better.
Also, what are the chances that Guenter's slider, bang, and toggle objects
could be integrated?

I've managed to solve all my PD glitches and have gone on to modify
Guenter's serial read to work with a sonar sensor. The code is working
great. However, not knowing PD well, I need some help with ASCII data.
I'm getting timing values back from my sonar sensor timer circuit, which
is attached to COM1. The values make up a float in the format XXX.XX
followed by ASCII 10 and 13. As an example in decimal I get:
48 46 51 52 10 13 = 0.34
(the timer pic drops all leading zero's but one.)
How do I store the values until I get a 10, then concatenate the values to
create the float?
Also, I plan on modifying Guenter's serial code further to create a
controller object for a Pioneer LD-V8000 laser disc player. I will forward
the code to those interested.

I'm looking to raise and lower the frequency of a looped sample and/or
sound from the adc interactively. Are there examples in the Docs should I
look at?

I noticed others on the list having similar errors, but didn't see how
they resolved them. I have PD running under Mandrake Linux 6.0 using the
Opensound drivers with an AWE 32 Soundblaster card. Everything installs
ok. When I try running PD I get the following errors:
OSS: device Nr. 1 on /dev/dsp
OSS: failed to open /dev/dsp writeonly
OSS: requiring extra adc handles
OSS: failed to open /dev/dsp read only
advance 13230 samples, samplerate = 4100.000000
inputchannels = 0, outputchannels = 0
MIDIlib: Found one MIDI port on /dev/midi
audio I/O stuck... closing audio and MIDI
I had PD running with the drivers that came with my Linux distribution but
the test sound was "stuttering." Deciding that it was a driver problem
and I purchased the Opensound driver. Now I get this error. I also have
PD running fine under NT on the same machine (duel boot system.) However,
I need to use serial objects that Guenter wrote for Linux.
