Running GEM on eee (1 gb) crashes Pd whenever i destroy a gemwin.
Terminal reports Segmentation fault. any tips? any flags that will make GEM
behave better?
thanks
Talking about Iannis Xenakis: does anybody know about a complilation or
rewriting of Xenakis's "GenDy" program used to compose "Gendy3" and "S709"
(at least)? I know of one made by someone called Peter Hoffman (if my memory
doesn't fail me), but i couldn't find it anywhere. Any ideas? Thank you all.
Hi Siegfried. Yes, I'm you are right. In fact, I've already tried to contact
him but the e-mail address that is published in the paper is not working.
May be I should send him a letter by post mail.

Hi,
with regard to the "gaz_molecules" in pmpd, how is possible take (for example in some number boxes) the position coordinates, time, and velocity of each molecular impact during a simulation?
Thank's,
t.

My interest has been piqued by netpd and a bunch of us here have been
playing with it. It's pretty fantastic --- there's only one caveat,
which is that the netpd server crashes and pretty easily at that. I've
seen the netpd.org server crash a bunch of times now. I downloaded and
installed the server patch on an ubuntu Gutsy machine and that crashes
similarly. I looked at the patch --- nothing too complex. I suspect
there is nothing wrong with the patch itself.
I'm suspecting the problem is with netserver, written by Olaf Matthes .
I suspect this because netsend~ and netreceive~ crash in my use in
similar ways to what I am seeing now with netpd --- Olaf Matthes wrote
those too. I was wondering if anybody could confirm or refute that
netserver is what is crashing netpd. It would be great if we fixed this.
In general I think we have a problem with some externals involving
network communication and if we fixed this in several of the externals
maybe we would solve a bunch of problems at once. I might be up for a
shot at it myself.

P.S. Some of us tuned in for the netpd jam that we thought happens every
Thursday at 22:00 CEST. Nobody was there except us. Is this just old
outdated info?

Pd-extended looks great. Wow!
But is there anything else that needs to be done to make the 3dp patches
work? ..... for now, the objects aren't being found.
3dp_windowcontext
... couldn't create
3dp_push
... couldn't create
etc.
thanks in advance -
hey,
can anyone recommend a good sequencer application for MacOSX? i'm currently
using Ableton Live to send MIDI data through the IAC bus to control Pd
(since i haven't yet found a pure Pd sequencer i'm happy with), but i'd
like to move more toward free software, and also it's a bit of a pain to
transfer loops from Ableton to Pd for standalone playback.
features it must have:
- ability to run different length loops at the same time (eg a 1-bar loop
on one layer, a 2-bar loop on another layer, and a 3-beat loop on a third
layer)
- easy access to velocity and note duration
otherwise i'm pretty easy.
if nothing turns up i'm considering writing one myself with openFrameworks
or Processing..
cheers
d

**Piksel08: code dreams
december 4-7 2008
Bergen, Norway
How does code dream? What are the dreams of code?
Piksel08 examines the other side of code, an alternative side to a hard-coded
reality of work and play. Open hardware and free software project a utopic
vision, yet exist within economies of capital, the dream factory of
mainstream technology. Within the chance meeting of sewing machine and
umbrella on the dissecting table, hardware and software are flattened.
Piksel08: code dreams explores the dreams of this soft machine; bachelors
coding for pleasure, reverse engineering paranoiac constructs of the real,
automatic coding practice, soft hardware, and everyday magic.
<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>
**open call:
1. Installations
Projects related to the code dreams theme including but not restricted to:
reverse engineering, soft hardware, code poetry, novel instruction sets,
invisible exploration, ghosted computation...
programmed by and running on free and open source software and/or open/DIY
hardware.
2. Audiovisual performance
Live art realised by the use of free and open source software. We specially
encourage live coding and DIY hardware projects to apply.
3. Software/Hardware
Innovative DIY hardware and audiovisual software tools or software art
released under an open licence.

**subsections:
**real code
real.co.[de][re] actively explores code which has strong effects on the real,
constructing the world through prediction and description. The twelve hour
real.co.[de][re] session will attempt the active construction of a working
code model (of any form) which addresses a flattening of the distinction
between software and hardware, to resolve a new political reference for real
core code.
**abstract code
Abstract code is software whose results can be invisible, a software
implementing different layers of action at the same time.
Abstract code is a connection to parallel worlds, a poetic formula dealing
with outer forces. Code is art, its action is subtile, effective, magic.
procedural text

HI
I was interested this weekend to tryout [jack_transport] from
"externals/tb/jack_transport" in the cvs repository.
As there as no binary for OSX, it decided to embark on compiling the
source, so I downloaded XCode 2.5 and the jack_transport package with
a cvs client.
There doesn't seem to be a ./configure file, only makefile. Is it
missing something, or do I need to install additional libraries?
I should point out that I have never built from source on osx, so I
really don't have a clue what to do!! If someone has built this for
OSx already that would be very helpful :-) or if someone could give me
some helpful pointers that would be great.
all the best
