Hi all,
Is anyone able to get PD 53.0 to work on Mac Ventura? I have a student with and PD 53 and 52 are freezing after a few minutes. Changing the audio device will cause it to freeze almost immediately.
Thanks!
Rick
To Pd-announce:
Pd version 0.53-0test2 is available from http://msp.ucsd.edu/software.htm
or (source only) via github: https://github.com/pure-data/pure-data
This contains more bug fixes and documentation updates.
Iohannes is still working on an update to teh string translation
mechanism; I'm planning to incorporate that into the final release,
hopefully early next week.
cheers
Miller

Thank you both IOhannes and Jaime, two excellent suggestions (when i
work on a proper laptop at least).
Still, both methods seem to require simultaneous writing of same audio
twice.
So in order to escape the obvious RAM/data hogging:
What would be needed to add a switchable display feature to a graph
otherwise, giving a user an opportunity to switch from linear display to
inverse exponential? It sounds like an extra line or two of object code
to me somehow.
Asking out of curiosity. I've no idea how to code that myself.

You can mount a dmg (disk image). Something like:
sudo mount -t hfs -o loop Pd-1.2.3.dmg /media/pd-dmg
If that doesn't work, then try hfsplus

Now that Miller has started the process of incorporating the new GUI
code into his repo, it seems that now is a good time to get some more/
better translations. The new GUI has pretty good localization support
using the standard gettext .PO format (which is then converted to the
Tcl .msg format). It uses Tcl's msgcat library to do the actual work
in the GUI.
So, now's a good time to start contributing. Fix up the languages
that are there, or add more languages or even country-specific
versions of a language.

You can start right away via weblate (our web-based translation helper) at:
https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/pure-data/pure-data/
(login with your gitlab, github, google, facebook, bitbucket, fedora,
ubuntu, opensuse,... account).
there's about 20 languages (with English, German and French being 100%
complete; and Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese being >90% completed), so
if you speak one of those languages that still need work, now is the
time to contribute.
if your favourite language is not on the list, drop me a note so I can
create the template.

I suggested the approach, but I don't really support us facilitating the circumvention of a system security feature (or annoyance, based on your perspective). At the least, it shouldn't be considered Pd's "standard practice" for macOS, in my opinion.
Hypothetically, what if someone uploads a malicious external to deken, knowing that someone will blindly download, install, remove quarantine, and urn it? Is the onus partially on whoever wrote the plugin as well as the original actor?
I suppose another approach is to have an upload server that automatically signs the library contents of a zip file and creates a notarized dmg for deken using a "shared" Apple developer account. I feel this leads us to the same potential problem if it is truly open to whoever.
