Join us at the RjDj Reactive Music Forum:
=========================================
http://more.rjdj.me/forum/
After more than a year, RjDj has developed into one of the most loved music
applications on iPod/iPhone. Literally thousands of music lovers spend hours
listening to reactive, algorithmic, generative new music generated in realtime
on their little mobile computers. Even musicians like Carl Craig dive into the
RjDj world by now.
The music of RjDj is composed with Pure Data as the …
[View More]RjDj composition software.
It's pretty cool to know that Pd patches are enjoyed by people around the world
in Europe, the States, Japan, wherever.
We @ Reality Jockey felt like it would be beneficial to create a place where
the experience and creation of reactive music could be discussed, both in
relation to RjDj and beyond - so we have created a reactive music forum for
just that.
So there it is: We're pleased to announce the opening of the "RjDj Reactive
Music Forum": http://more.rjdj.me/forum/
New Scenes available
====================
In not totally unrelated news we also have many new Scenes available on
rjdj.me, most of them free as in beer or even speech.
There is stuff from Japan:
http://more.rjdj.me/2009/11/03/new-scenes-from-japan/ where RjDj is becoming
big as Natto, or half a dozen new Scenes by Pd experts like Martin Brinkmann:
http://more.rjdj.me/2009/10/15/half-a-dozen-new-scenes/
All this is Pd vanilla btw. :)
And of course your music could be a part of the reactive music experience as
well. Just read http://more.rjdj.me/composer/ to see what changes you may have
to make to your existing Pd patch to tranform it into a scene for RjDj - and
then how to upload it to rjdj.me. Maybe your scene will be the next big thing?
Ciao

Hi,
In ubuntu, if I send "border 0" to [gemwin], then the window (once
created), besides being borderless which is the expected part, also
sticks on top and doesn't have a button in the panel on the bottom of
the screen as windows usually have.
Not so in Windows, where it just creates a borderless window which, a
part being borderless, behaves as any other window.
Is there a way in Linux to get a gem window that is simply borderless
without sticking on top and without having to renounce …
[View More]to the panel button??
thanks

from irc #dataflow :
<hellocatfood> Is it possible to use [gemdead] with objects such as [cube]
and [sphere] in gridflow?
In theory, I said no, but actually, [gemdead] doesn't prevent you from
using OpenGL elements, and things like [cube] and [sphere] don't check at
all whether they're given a real [gemhead] context, and don't seem to be
doing much that is related to it, therefore :
[gemhead]
|
[b]
|
[gemdead]
|
[cube]
will really draw the cube as if …
[View More]you had done :
[gemhead]
|
[cube]
I suspect that very few Gem object classes really depend on an authentic
GemState (one that was really created by [gemwin]). When you do find
exceptions, please tell me.
But you may have to use [gemhead] anyway (as in the above example) as long
as [gemwin] decides when to clear the buffer and when to copy the buffer
to the screen, just because [gemwin] uses [gemdead] to say when it's the
time to draw.

Hello All!
I want to announce the official release of the Extended View Toolkit.
http://puredata.info/Members/Weitsicht/extended-view-toolkit/
The Extended View Toolkit is a set of abstractions developed for the art installation "Extended View streamed".
It is intended to be an easy solution to experiment and realise panoramic video and complex multiscreen projection
environments to createimmersive media experiences.
It features a set of abstractions that are able to combine multiple …
[View More]related image-sources
(like video input, video playback) into aconsistent panoramic image.
The source-material, e.g. the camera to display has to be aligned horicontally, since image-combination
is based on simple, openGL basededge-blending and not algorithmic pix by pixel comparison.
Furthermore it features abstractions to create multi-screen, multi-projector environments to enable
correct representation of (not only)panoramic material. The projection abstractions can be combined
to form big screens out of multiple projectors with softedge betweenoverlapping borders of single
projectors and contain a vertex model that can be adjusted in 4, respectively 9 points, so that
projections onchallenging geometric surfaces is possible.
Additionally, all abstractions are controllable via OSC-styled send/receive-messages, which simplifies
OSC-based external control.
Also, since streaming video was part of the project, a gstreamer based streaming solution was developed
by Peter Innerhofer to distribute panoramic/multistream video over network.
It can be found here: [https://github.com/peonic/streaming]
Libraries needed: mrpeachBuilt with pd 42.6 and GEM 92.3
Credits:
Shader Programming/openGL: Cyrille Henry
GEM: Marian Weger
Prototyping/GEM: Peter Venus
Streaming: Peter Innerhofer
Initiation/Supervision: Winfried Ritsch
A short demo-clip can be found here: [http://vimeo.com/20311051]
The project was made possible through support from IEM-Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics (iem.at)
and CO-ME-DI-A.
The CO-ME-DI-A project is supported by the Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency (EACEA)
of the European Comission forthe period 2007 - 2010 ([http://www.comedia.eu.org/]).
Your feedback is welcome!
Peter

Hi folks, what's up?
This all started with my pd classes in portuguese in Brazil, I then
developed this tutorial that got kinda big.
I'd show it to international friends around and they seemed interested, some
told me about having a spanish version or french but I could only do it in
english. For an workshop in Piksel last year I tried to translate it to
english, could only finish it now. It's nice that it forced me to rewrite
the whole thing (so I must have generated a whole new bunch set of …
[View More]errors)
and now I have an old Pd tutorial in portuguese that I don't like anymore, I
should rewrite it to portuguese now (maybe next year as I wasn't aware of
all the hassle it is). I may have put myself into this infinite loop of
writing and rewriting in the two languages, God help me...
Anyway, I'm kinda sad I don't have a tutorial in portuguese that I like
anymore. But the reason I did this is that I hope you people out there could
give me some feedback on this thing. I'm sure there are tons of typos and
spelling errors so forgive me and please let me know.
People are usually excited about this tutorial here in Brazil but never
quite warn me of BS I write, and I'm surprised everytime I review it as I
can always find trouble.
Anyway, most of this was a motivation of having a pretty nice document in
portuguese, as pretty much everything else is in english. I probably
wouldn't do it if I was teaching in english all the time. So some things are
not much new, but I am proud of some other things, and I like the fact it
tries to be quite extensive and all in one document, organized in folders
that depend on previous patches.
Oh, here's the link to it: https://sites.google.com/site/porres/Tut-Eng.zip
Thanks
Alex

The auto-completion is fantastic stuff! Especially the drop-down menu addition.
Congratulations Yvan, HC & JW.
Is there anyway of modifying the plugin so that instead of using TAB this
happens...
* Create new object -> list of objects appear in full (0-9, a-z) but focus
stays in object
* Begin typing -> list of objects reduces as you type
* See the one you want -> arrow key up/down, focus changes to drop-down box
then ENTER to select desired object
Is this something …
[View More]that is possible?
I tend to go on breaks from Pd when real life kicks back in so every time I come
back I find myself opening up the help list of all objects to remember what
tools I have available to me. So a complete list I would find very helpful, plus
I think this would aid beginners a lot too.
Cheers, John.

Dear List,
I was trying to get Ardour to work last night and i came accross the forum
on their website. I must say i was quite shocked to see how many posts were
about money. I was equally surprized to see that the latest full version of
Ardour isn't free (although you can name your price).
Now don't get me wrong : I think i can imagine the amount of work that was
necessary to write a software like Ardour from scratch, and i totally
understand that the team who wrote it may decide that they …
[View More]should be payed
for it.
This leads me to ask two questions :
1) What are the economics of open source software, and how sustainable is
the model? How does it work for Pd?
2) I get the feeling that open source developpers used to think that the
idea of free (free beer...) software was cool, but 10 to 15 years down the
line (that is, now) they're beginning to realize that they can't keep on
doing this forever. Am I wrong here?
I have been considering making a donation since i've been using Pd
extensively for a few years now. But could someone tell me exactly how it
works? Who gets the money? How is it split between the different
developpers? For instance, i'm assuming that Miller Puckette should get a
fair share of the donations since we're all using Pd vanilla at least, but i
use HID a lot in my patches, so Hans should get his share too. And i never
use GEM or Gridflow (cause i have no need for it at the moment), so i don't
see why part of my donation should go to Mathieu or GEM's author(s). Yet i m
sure that thousands of people use GEM, and these developpers should be
supported as well. In short, how does it work, and how do we make this
sustainable?
