Thanks again to Martin for pointing me out that [midiout] is now rocking
on latest versions of Pd.
I made a little library to handle I/O from the Korg padKontrol (which is
probably not new to users of Max or Proce55ing) and a simple example of
how it may be used.
All sounds and logic in this game are written using Pd only.

So Lluis Gomez i Bigorda got me to play with 3dp aka pdp_opengl a
little bit and it seems interesting, so I added it to the Pd-extended
builds for GNU/Linux and Mac OS X. I've already seen some interesting
stuff, so I thought I'd throw it out there. You need a build from
yesterday or later.
Also, there is currently one help patch for 3dp_for, nothing else.
So if you generate some in your explorations, please send them my
way, or add them to the patch tracker:
http://puredata.info/dev/patchtracker
Here's how to play:
- get a build from yesterday or later
- start X11.app (if on Mac OS X)
- open new patch, and create [import pdp_opengl]
- open Help -> Browser, and browse "examples" -> "3dp"
- play with them and see what you get
- expect crashes and some fun 3D

DIY: Do It Yourself !
Hands-on three-day workshop for building “DIY” sound generators
04/10 – 06/10, Medienkunstlabor Graz
With Gert-Jan Prins (NL) & Winfried Ritsch (A)
Final public concert
Tue 07/10, 7.30 pm, steirischer herbst festival centre
Composers Gert-Jan Prins and Winfried Ritsch provide instructions for
building your own electronic sound-generating circuits and for
handling and building “robotic instruments”. Relevant concepts such as
open hardware (“algo_dsPIC” and “algo_fets” developed at the
Algorhytmics studio) and control protocols such as Open Sound Control
(OSC) are explained in a practical context. The workshop finishes with
a joint concert featuring all participants.
For many years Gert-Jan Prins has been working on compositions and
live electronic performances that use DIY, usually analog circuits
primarily in the sphere of radio / FM modulation. He is a member of
the electronic improvisations supergroup “Mimeo”, among others, and
runs the “Synchronator” video and audio research project with Bas van
Koolwijk.
Winfried Ritsch has been working in a wide range of musical fields
since 1984, including computer music, interactive music, radio,
networks, and on the development of DIY electronic music devices and
cybernetic control models. He founded the “Algorythmics” studio, the
“Tonto” label and the Graz-based “mur.at” network, among others, and
works at the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics at Graz
University of Art.
A basic understanding of computer-controlled instruments and/or any
kind of background in electrical engineering is an asset but not
essential for taking part in the workshop.
Contribution towards expenses for material is €40
Please send your registration including CV not later than July 30,
2008, to
steirischer herbst, attn. Bea Dermond
Sackstr. 17, 8010 Graz, Austria
dermond(a)steirischerherbst.at
The workshop is taking place as part of the series of concerts
“Devices, Suitable for (Almost) Every Purpose”
“Devices, Suitable for (Almost) Every Purpose”
curated by Heike Schleper & Bernhard Schreiner (“feld” label,
Frankfurt):
Tue 07/10, “INTENSIFICATION: Get High!” with Russell Haswell (GB)
Tue 14/10, “INVESTIGATION: Explore!” with Jana Winderen (N)
Tue 21/10, “IMPROVISATION: Merge!” with Thomas Ankersmit (NL) & Phill

Yo,
I just added an idea to http://puredata.info/dev/GuiIdeas and thought
I'd post it here too for discussion, since one day I may get around to
doing it (or perhaps someone else with more pd-hacking talent wants to
:) )
An object, [contextitem 1 Change colors...] would add a "Change
colors..." item to either the current canvas, the parent of the object
(when the object was right clicked), or both depending on the first
argument (0, 1, or 2 respectively). The remaining arguments would
specify the name of the context item (to allow for spaces), and the
[contextitem] object would have a single outlet which would [bang(
when the context item was clicked.
This (combined with a state-saving solution) would allow emulation of
"Properties" dialogs, and would be generally useful for embedding
functionality in tight spaces.
Cheers
Luke
Hi List...
I have a patch that drives the cpu-load up
Wha do you think is the most common source for that ??
How should i pin down the malicious circuit/external or whatevr it is..
It seems not to be related to Audio-Processing
Thanks

Hey List...
what do think about "Faust" ???
Is anybody using it outside the "academic" research and teaching
world...
I just managed to get the "Eks" Extended Karplus Strong compiled on
Intel Mac..
and would like to know if there is anybody with some experiences on
it...
Cheers Luigi

I'm working with an XML database (well in fact an X3D realtime immersive
A-V environment)
i have audio files referenced with this database
is there a way that these streams(?) can be sent to pd to be manipulated?
at any one time there may be several
so from X3D i would have something like
<AudioClip DEF="575" url="audio/Dunn_David-Rainfall.wav" />
<AudioClip DEF="1414" url="audio/Westerkamp-1981-transformations-a
walk_through_the_city.wav"/>
<AudioClip DEF="2247"
url="audio/throbbing_gristle-1981-we_hate_you_little_girls.wav" />
as well as empty elements, like
<AudioClip DEF="2251" url="" />
Any thoughts?
All the best
Milo
I noticed the other day that when selecting to run in Jack mode (with
Jack booted) the system becomes unusably sluggish.
This happens in the PPC version of 0.40.3 -extended that I downloaded
the other day from Autobuild and Jack osx 0.77. I haven't tried one of
the latest builds.
I'm adding this to the bug tracker
thanks
