I have avoided this by getting myself in the habit of moving stuff
around with a shift-arrowkey rather than the mouse. It takes a second
longer, but it's almost guaranteed to work (it also helps avoid that
annoying problem you get when you paste something directly over what
you just copied and you don't know which one you're grabbing with the
mouse).
