I like the idea of keeping the subfolder names the same, but the
"Application Support" gets really long. And there are precedents for
the ~/Library/Pd way, like ~/Library/Mail.

Various Pd-*.command files could easily swap in and out various
~/Library/Preferences/org.puredata.*.plist files to start different
configs.

Yes it would be indeed. I was planning a Pd-for-UNIX.pkg to do stuff
like that, also including the headers. Feel free to beat me to it.

I want to create a microtonal step sequencer.
I'm wondering if this is possible:
I want to be able to set the prime limits separately, like how many
powers of each prime number up to 17 or so will be allowed as values.
Then, the pitch slider will give only values that are fractions where
the numerator and denominator are multiples of those primes.
For instance, with the prime limits:
3-4
5-1
7-1
11-1
13-0
17-0
I would get values like:
11/8
3/2
8/5
5/3
27/16
12/7
7/4
16/9
9/5
Or maybe they …
[View More]could be displayed as stuff like 5x7/3x3x13 or whatnot.
2 would be assumed infinite, at least for now. One option that would
be okay would be numerator and denominator displayed in separate
boxes, if they could be controlled by one slider.
I'm thinking a/b = c, and the value of c determines the pitch value,
but a and b are displayed. The trouble is that every possible value
of a/b would have to be known to put them in order.
Is it possible?
Thanks.

Hello
I have been using Pd on Red Hat 9 / Planet CCRMA for over one year with great
satisfaction. Some info, kernel = 2.4.11 low latency, sound card = hdsp
multiface, pd version = 0.37.
Recently, for some crash reason I had to make a complete new installation of
linux. As I didn't have much time, I used a ubuntu-linux installation cd that
someone gave me (hopefully) some days before.
Now I have to use Pd again but I can't get it work on this new system.
The first thing I need is to have the …
[View More](hdsp) sound. I tried to install the
latest stable alsa driver but the ./configure script says "unsupported soundcard
hdsp", which of course doesn't look normal.
Maybe the best solution for me is to install a low latency kernel that includes
a correct alsa driver. Will the planet CCRMA kernel work with ubuntu-linux ? or
should I install RH9 again instead ? Are there other kernels for this ? The
thing is that I don't have a lot of time to spend on this. I can install another
kernel, possibly another linux distribution, like RH9 (I have the CDs) -- but
definitely not build an audio-specific gentoo linux, for example.
After I have a low latency alsa kernel, I can install the hdsploader program and
everything should work.
Last thing : I currently have pd-0.38 (original version) installed on this
machine. When I type "pd -jack", I get a message telling me that this flag
doesn't exist.
So I tried to install pd-devel_0_38, but ./configures says that there is no Tcl
header on my machine, though tcl/tk is clearly installed ...
So if anyone has a quick solution for running Pd as soon as possible, it will be
truly appreciated
best regards,
-j

Hi all,
I posted earlier this week about trying to capture using a Matrox X100
capture card with Gem 0.90.1 and Windows 2000. I've figured out that it
sort of works using the analog input to the capture card.
However, when I open the gemwin (I don't even have to start rendering)
PD slows down to the point where it takes as much as a minute to repond
to my input. The CPU load meter jumps up to above 600, and in about 5
minutes PD crashes without a message.
I've used GEM (.87, w/ pd 0.36) …
[View More]with a video input on this computer
before with no problems, so this is odd. It has dual P4 3.0 GHz
processors, so it shouldn't have a problem there--this patch runs
smoothly on a single P4 3.2G. The video card is a Radeon 9800, so /that/
shouldn't be a problem..
Any ideas what could be causing this, or what I could do to fix it?
Thanks,
Ian

i'm using [equalizer] as the interface to [biquad~] .... i'm wondering,
what is the 'unity' gain and 'unity' bandwidth for this?
i hope that makes sense.

Yves and Guenter, thanks for your replies, and Yves, I'm sorry to make
you answer that question yet again.
It looks like I need to simply find, for now some QT files with jpeg
codec...
In the meantime, I've dropped my search for pdp_ffmpeg~ and switched to
trying pdp_theonice~
However, I run into the same problem: pd can't create it, along with
several other objects, including pdp_charcoal, pdp_i (but pdp_o is okay)
and pdp_icedthe~
Any ideas? Am I isiing something really fundamental …
[View More]here? I must
confess I'm getting into an area I don't really understand...
PD 0.38.0 (Guenter's Debian package)
pd-pdp-caedes 1:0.12.4-2
pd-pidip-caedes 0.12.17-1
libtheora 0.0.0.alpha4-1
cheers

Dear list,
I couldn't find anyone answering my question
on the list... (sob!) Given the traffic these days,
I can see various reason for this...
1- Nobody understood what I meant
2- Nobody ever had this problem
3- Noobody ever solved this problem within PD
4- My mail just got drowned in friday's mail rush
5-The question is too hard and nobody wanted
to waste time answering this.
6-The question is too easy and nobody wanted
to waste time answering this.
7- other?
still searching ... …
[View More]waiting for a kind GEM/OpenGL guru
to help me find sleep again
many thanks!

i've just recently started trying to make my things look like RRADical
patches, where everything is inside a table, the interface is right
there to use, and it's very neat! and i like it very much.
so when i go to make my very own table with buncha_cool_stuff_inside, i
sheepishly made my canvas and started putting cool_stuff on top of the
canvas only to find out when i closed the table... everything was
unusably smooshed together. all my sliders and number boxes were on top
of each …
[View More]other and indecipherable. i started moving things around inside
the table to make it look nice when the table was closed, and i can get
things to where i want them when my table is closed, but it's dreadful
looking when i open my table. my canvas is in the upper left, the
sliders are in the middle and my numbox's are off to the far right.
i can't figure out how to get the 1-to-1 relationship inside the table,
as outside the table. please help explain my faulting here.
