Hello,
I'm very supportive of the recent proposal to build a
RRADical PD package for end-users, and its inspired me
to resume work on a GUI-driven modular sequencer patch
that could make a nice contribution to the project.
Here's a screenshot of the front-end GUI for "The
Schedule":
http://www.steampowered.org/the_schedule.htm
However, before I can submit it I need some help
troubleshooting my patch. Someone with some experience
generating scripts to build .pd files would be really
useful. This patch is a patch cord connection monster,
and I'm only able to point-and-click so far...
If you're interested in helping me complete this
patch, you can download the work-in-progress here:
http://www.steampowered.org/The_Schedule.zip
I've commented the patch fairly well I hope, but if
you need more orientation, please feel free to email
me.
Also, please submit changes to me or the list, but
don't upload the patch to .org yet - I still want to
tweak some GUI elements to make it more user-friendly.
Thanks very much!
Marcus.

great! so basic, ur instructions helped me to know that I should type "pd
-lib Gem" to launch pd with a certain lib..
and seem to work when loading a gem sample patch but then some stuff is
missing look:

Hi everyone,
I'm new to all this but I would like to contribute because I think the
intentions you all have are good,
although my knowledge of programming stops at flash scripting, I would
really want to take part of this experience and be able to use this amazing
piece of software you are all building here together.
Maybe my contribution could be of bringing user-level concepts and basically
beta-testing what you build.
I am a designer in public-space (just grad) based in rotterdam doing some
vjying at weekends with an alubook15" 1ghz 256ram running all latest panther
upgrades.
I understand that Adam Lindsay you are the one working on porting this array
of softs to panther, so probably this will only be of interest to you..
sorry if this is not the right place to post this..
Exploring the pd/pdp/pidip/gem network, I started following the instruction
to install pd on panther through fink. Installing fink caused already a
problem when the .dmg downloaded couldn't be mounted : "no mountable
filesystem found"..
reading on I found a message in some forum quoting that fink isn't actually
needed at all because panther contains all the libs needed to install/run
pd.
So I found Adam's page; downloaded pd 0.36 install package which worked
fine. Had to restart to be able to run it though.
The other file I found here:
http://taproot.dyndns.org/~cgc/downloads/index.html is the g4 version of gem
: once downloaded it unpacks just 1 file called Gem.pd_darwin : how do I use
this file? is it an installer? is gem needed to run pdp?
I have now PD 0.36 running, so basically the question is: how do I install
PDP, GEM and PiDiP (are they so different? do they complement each other?)
onto PD 0.36 (in panther thus)..
This just shows how difficult it might be for non-coders to use those
obviously great tools..
Maybe it might be interesting to build a site that sits as a communication
portal (linking all these efforts together).. communication for new but also
more serious users (prbbly you, the ones at the base of this, sothat all
know what threads of devs are going on -who's doing what-).
Maybe it is already there and I just missed it, maybe I miss the point of
all this.. but for me the communication issue is the one which makes OS look
so dark..
I saw some german lecturer of an OS conference last thursday in rotterdam
promoting his book "free networks" or so, he was quoting himself: "geeks, no
speech" from his experience with trying to understand and grasp a bit of
what is happening with the OS dev world the last year(s)..
Having said that I personally don't think of people working together as
something dark, I actually had good experience with a group (code31) in
brussels..
And coming from the field of creation I totally adhere to collaborative
working as going forward and pushing limits.
apologies for the long mail / / I hope this is not received as misunderstood
/ language sometimes deflects from the original meaning..
greetings and keep up the good work
Gon Zifroni.

But you can't stream in flash while pd is writing the mp3, can you?

heya,
...just a note that a new alpha of tcl/tk for OSX is available at:
http://homepage.mac.com/tigital
...pd needs to be recompiled to use this: just change the references
to "8.4" in the makefile to "8.5", then place the tcl.framework and
tk.framework in your "/Library/Frameworks", and finally place the new
Wish Shell.app into "/Applications/Utilities"...
...this release fixes the toggle button problem, which actually
affected alot of interface stuff, as well as correcting a redraw
bug...to my mind, this effectively replaces the 8.4.x releases, and is
much faster at canvas/text drawing...
...as always, bug reports welcome!

hi,
sorry for spaminge a second time but i really love the
features of curve3d but can`t continue building abstractions
without having the possiblity of playing video files.
here is the link to the distribution:
http://drpichon.free.fr/pure-data/GEM/
i`d really be very happy if somebody could have a short
look to the sources because i`m really a little stuck.

Hello,
I'm interested in learning more about creating Flash
frontends for a few PD patches of mine and hosting
them on the web.
I've installed the flashserver external; however, I
only have a rudimentary working knowledge of Flash and
I'm in need of some advice on where to tread next.
A few questions:
1. Is it neccessary to learn Actionscript in order to
create interaction between PD and Flash, or will just
a few rote lines of memorized code suffice? At the
moment, all I want to do is build some sliders and
have PD recieve the numerical data.
2. I'm not hosting any webspace on a local box, though
I do have telnet access. Will it be possible to boot
my patch through my telnet-accessed comand line? If
not, is there any way of pulling this off short of
building my own webserver?
3. Has anyone tried to stream audio data back through
Flash? Is this feasible? If not, what's the most
widely-accessible way of sharing the audio data?
Icecast?
Any further tips and pointers on this task would be
appreciated. Once I've successfully pulled this off,
I'd like to write a simple tutorial for pure-data.org
on how it was done.
Thanks!
Marcus.

Hi,
With the latest pd-externals.tgz from sourceforge I've done this:
dpkg-buildpackage -d (on debian of course)
It seems i'm missing the following file when building flext:
In file included from /usr/include/SndObj/AudioDefs.h:80,
from source/flsndobj.h:19,
from source/flsndobj.cpp:12:
/usr/include/SndObj/IFFT.h:10: rfftw.h: No such file or directory
Can anyone tell me where rfftw.h is meant to come from?
Regards,
Chris.
