Hi all,
I've been working with pd for a month now and been reading the list msgs for
some time too. I run pd on WinXP and work on video with GEM with a Nvidia
Gforce2 and it is so smooth, I haven't encountered any problems at all.
My problem is that i'm trying to use flags. For example, to use "-listdev",
I must use it on startup and put it in my shortcut. But when
I try to msg pd with listdev, like when I use the testtone patch with:
;
pd audiostatus
pd gives me a "unkown message" error. How can I send a -listdev message to
pd or use other flags? The
;
pd restart-audio
from the testtone.pd patch doesn't work either...
Thanks,
Simon
I know it's a simple question but I couldn't find any information about that
on the list or in the doc....

Hi all,
I have trouble compiling vbap from ggee for irix. I managed
to produce vbap.pd_irix6, but as I try using it I get
vbap
...couldn't create.
If anyone has compiled this for irix, I'd really appreciate a copy.
Thanks,
jusu
I have been using it happily without any problems
on windows 2000 (two separate machines) for a while now.
w2k is a good system - fast and stable (well M$ had to learn
how to write operating systems sooner or later :-))
I HAVE heard very good things about XP and will probably
upgrade at some point - there is a good article about music
and XP in a recent Sound on Sound (www.sospubs.co.uk).
If I was upgrading a machine right now I would be very
tempted to go for XP.
cheers
mark

hi,
Is there a way to prevent abstractions from opening windows showing
themselves when clicked on ?
I've tried to hide them behind canvasses, but still they will open
windows when I click on the canvas ...
regards,
x

i installed and checked out framestein yesterday and must say that it`s
really nice. the only problem i`ve got is that when playing back video, the
playback stutters for a short, but visible amount of time. i`ve got a amd athlon
1,4 ghz and the cpu isn`t stressed, so does anybody know the solution?
buffering the videos doesn`t really help...
also the reaction to frameratechanges is rather poor, so how can i tune the
whole thing?
thanks in advance

I am working on a sound installation in an old train tunnel and I am
using PD to control everything. But since I am a PD neophyte, I want to
ask the list for direction. Basically, my plan is to use about 8
computers spaced down the length of the tunnel, each with two speakers.
They will be networked together and running either OS X or linux.
Here is how I envision it:
(L) (R) (L) (R) (L) (R) (L) (R) (L) (R) [speakers]
\ / \ / \ / \ / \ /
master slave slave slave slave
|---------| |-------| |-------| |-------| |---... [ethernet]
All of the computers will share a pool of samples via the network. I
would like to control all of the PDs from the master computer.
For the first aspect of the installation, I would like to be able to
trigger any sample on any/all computers and even move samples down the
tunnel. The second aspect, I would like to be able to control granular
synthesis on these computers.
Does anybody know anyone who has done something like this before? With
PD? Any advice you want to offer to get me going in the right direction
would be grreatly appreciated. I am just starting with PD, but am
familiar with most of the concepts since I have a background in Csound
and programming.
