Summary: GOP-related crash with rrad.split~
Initial Comment:
Some patches crash pd immediately upon opening.
I found a small patch that exhibits such
behaviour. Loading individual externs and
abstractions from that patch dos not cause problems, only
opening this patch as is. Backtrace is below.
This is on Karmic and 0.42.5-extended-20100110 (this is the last
version I tried but had exactly the same issue with some november and
december build).
Hans confirmed the behaviour on Pd-0.42.5-extended-20091217 on Mac OS X 10.5.8/Intel.

Summary: plugin~ help patch needs replacement
Initial Comment:
We have known for years that the plugin~ help patch can crash Pd if the requested LADSPA plugins are not present on the user's system. The issue has been addressed on the mailing list dozens of times, and a corrected help patch posted years ago by Frank Barknecht, however it has not been updated. As a final attempt, I post it here in the hopes that someone will take a few minutes to deal with this finally.

hmm, i tried both this help-patch and the one that comes with
PdX-0.42rc1.
both crash.
therefore:
- the attached patch doesn't fix any problem, since the crash can be
triggered by the user at any time (the bug is in [plugin~] not in any
help-patch)
- the attached patch doesn't fix the symptoms either
anyhow, thanks for the report

Message:
With Pd-extended, you need to load the 'hexloader' first, then they work.
Before trying to load those objects, try creating this first: [import
hexloader iemmatrix]. Then they should work.
IOhannes, what about reducing the use of the hexloader in iemmatrix and
zexy to the bare minimum? For example, 0x21 (!) works on all file systems,
so mtx_0x21.pd_linux could be mtx_!.pd_linux and it would work without the
hexloader.

Comment By: IOhannes m zmlnig (zmoelnig)
Date: 2010-04-20 07:07
Message:
adding things to the path won't load them at all (that's desired
behaviour)
anyhow, (most likely) your problem is the way, Pd-extended packages
iemmatirx (single object library vs single file library).
a lot of work has been done in order to allow for both packaging flavours,
but still not very satisfactory.
PS: if you are really referring to "iem_matrix" (with underscore; as your
initial title suggested (i changed it)), then you are using a version of
library that has been deprecated for about 5r years; please use
"iemmatrix".

I would appreciate it, but I'd be happy if someone else could confirm the
patch is working, since it's the first time I've done something like this.
If you, Hans, apply it, let me know and i'll happily test the next
autobuild and report back.

Summary: linux only? segmentation fault
Initial Comment:
This patch causes pd and pd-extended to crash, when opened and closed a number of times. Resulting message in terminal is: segmentation fault. A canvas object inside an abstraction with "graph on parent", which in turn is inside an abstraction with "graph on parent".
The same result when replacing the canvas object with a graphical bang.
Tested on Ubuntu Lucid, without desktop effects.
No crash on Windows Vista.
