Hi,
I built GEM on Windows with Visual C++ 2010 Express under Windows 7. I made a how-to pdf with a step-by-step. I have a working Gem.dll and several extras. I managed to build filmDS by making some changes in the code (adding a lacking qedit.h and changing #include order) but this could have broken other builds. I can't build videoDS due to several errors after replacing qedit.h and changing header order :
1>------ Début de la génération : Projet : videoDS, Configuration : Release Win32 ------ 1> videoDS.cpp 1>C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\Samples\multimedia\directshow\baseclasses\wxdebug.h(295): error C2146: erreur de syntaxe : absence de ';' avant l'identificateur 'm_pString' 1>C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\Samples\multimedia\directshow\baseclasses\wxdebug.h(295): error C4430: spécificateur de type manquant - int est pris en compte par défaut. imageMAGICK doesn't build due to errors (see attached log). I'm linking against ImageMagick v.6.8.6 videoHALCON report some casting issue which I fixed by adding explicit cast but linking fails. I'm using HALCON v.11
I also have a question concerning Gem's dependencies. I need to put some dll (freetype6.dll, ftgl.dll, pthreadVC2.dll and zlib/dll) beside Gem.dll. Those files are not needed in the last release of Gem. Is it possible to do that again ? If no, could I attached a copy of those files in an archive to deploy Gem (at least for testing) ?
I build Gem mainly to be able to build pix_opencv on Windows and I don't try IT a lot. So if somebody have time to test this on Windows, I'll be happy to make an archive with binaries. For now, there is a new folder under the build\ folder in my github Gem/vce2010 branch. https://github.com/avilleret/Gem.git
Any advice is welcome.

hmm, weird (i mean: why does it work on the original build?)

iirc, i build a static library of FTGL and link to that. this should fix the freetype6.dll/ftgl.dll issue (maybe zlib.dll as well). as for pthreadVC2.dll: isn't this shipped with Pd-vanilla?

the first strange thing, is that qedit.h have been removed from Windows SDK 7 I found a replacement here : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/2ab5c212-5824-4... but after that, there are some error due to including order I know this is strange but I'm thinking this is due to the new SDK version maybe it is possible to use the old one still on Windows 7

So I have a working Gem.dll statically linked to FTGL and Freetype (no need to have lot's of DLL beside it). Not tested yet, but Gem.dll loads on Windows XP SP3 (but you need msvcr100.dll and msvcp100.dll besides it since it was built under WIndows 7). and [gemvertexbuffer] (both on Windows 7 and XP SP3)

maybe we should tag the curent svn to 0.93.4 or 0.94.0 before distributing binary? it's 2 year after 0.93.3, i think it's time.

the binaries are not online yet because I'm trying to build the plugins and then I'll make an installer
but i have some issue with videoDS And can't figure out a way to build under Windows 7 with Visual C++ 2010 Express I always get undefined symbol with videoDS
so I'm trying to build all the things with an older SDK on Windows XP with Visual C++ 2008 Express
I'll let you know when the installer will be ready

hi,
I'm sorry, I can't build working plugins DLL on Windows. I have a working Gem.dll and I have lot's of plugins DLL but Gem can't load lots of them. And it is just saying that :
dylib loading file 'gem_videoDS.dll'! GemDylib failed: #126: Le module spécifié est introuvable. GemDylib throwing: DLLerror(0x7e)Le module spécifié est introuvable.
videoDS plugins always fail. I try it on Windows 7 with Visual C++2010 Express / Windows SDK 7.1, and on Windows XP with Visual C++ 2008 Express and Windows SDK 6.1 and Windows Driver Kit and lots of others ******* things.
So I gave up... I have a working Gem and I can play video and access webcam, it's enough for me to work on pix_opencv.
But if someone has some advice, they are welcome, I don't think I'm far from getting all to work but I don't have time to figure out what is happenning...
Best regards
Antoine

fgsmdr IOhannes
hello,
"windows_stuff" is the branch where I put what I've done. Mainly, I make a win-vce2010 folder in build/ folder and in each plugins and extra folder with project configured to build with Visual 2010 Express also there is a PDF (and its .odt) which describe how I did it. But I only report the part which works. For example, I build a imageMAGICK.dll but it doesn't work so I didn't wrote anything about it in the PDF. I also modified win-vc2008 files to fits my system, and I set lots of environnement variables, directly in the property sheets. I think it's more easy to modify one or two variable instead of looking for all path in different pages. But it's only my point of view...
again, if someone knows a way to understand why Gem can't load DLL's, I will be happy to learn...
cheers

hello,
"windows_stuff" is the branch where I put what I've done.
ok, thanks.
i've manually merged in this branch (completely leaving out the build\win-vc2010e\ folder). i've also excluded the PDF and it's ODT and instead converted it into a wiki-page [1]....mainly because i prefer having text as text rather than 2 binary blobs.

I agree, thanks for that I was thinking ODT can be versionned but I realise this is not the case when commiting
