Dear all,
at the SOb project (http://www.soundobject.org) we're writing some
really cool physical model objects which we are soon going to package
and propose to the pure-data externals repository (they are GNU/GPL).
However, we now have a problem that we want to solve soon: we need
standalone versions of some demo applications (possibly running griPD etc.)
we did. It would be nice to have a sort of MaxPlay type of thing (how
about PdPlay?). I …
[View More]have some ideas on how to do it and it could be
trivial, and therefore it is very probable that someone has already done
it somewhere. If no one has done it, I'll hack up one solution and
report back to the list as soon as it is done (it is going to be GNU/GPL
anyway :).
Thank you in advance for all the help you will want to give.

Would it break anything if I add -DLINUX to
externals/build/linux/makefile? There is already /DNT and -DMACOSX for
Windows and MacOSX, and it would be handy to be able to differentiate
Linux as well.

Hi all,
i implemented SIMD support for PPC processors to the devel_0_37 branch.
This will currently only be used if "-faltivec" is (manually) added to
the CFLAGS in the makefile. Needless to say, this won't work on G3
cpus.
Since my experience with Altivec is limited, i would be grateful if one
of the SIMD experts could have a look. I'm using the mid-level
mnemonics, not direct assembly code. Some functions are still lacking.
The amount of cpu saving (at least on my PB 400) is not as …
[View More]impressive
as with the Intel/SSE implementation. I would attribute this to the
slow memory of my machine.... probably newer machines perform better.
best greetings,
Thomas

[View More]>From my point of view, you may :)
I will try to fix the HEAD branch over the weekend, I have to figure
out what created the mess there.
A TODO is still to incorporate the latest version of Miller into the
devel_0_37, maybe I get to that too.
Rainy weeking in Barcelona :(

hi all,
i'm currently working on an external that's using the fftw3 library to
replace pd's internal fft objects...
the results are amazing, i reduced the cpu load for the real forward fft
to 40-50%
but i realized that the imaginary output of the fftw library is
negative, the imaginary output of pd's fft is positive ... or to be
exact, the output of fftw and pd's fft are complex conjugated ...
any idea, what could cause this?

Hello!
I have a simple problem in c++:
I don't know how I can set the range of rand().
For example if I want a random number between 0 and 9, random(10) doesn't
work.
Does anyone know the right syntax?
Thanks, lg

Hey Thomas,
When I built flext and did the #include <flext.h> I had to change one of the
flext libraries - the one that included the relevant PD library said
#include <m_pd.h>, but I had to change it to #include "m_pd.h" (couldn't
find the PD library otherwise). Is this OK to do - will my object still
work?
Thanks,
Matt

Also, when I try to load in a flext based dll file (using ...\pd\bin\pd -lib
externalname.lib), after trying to create the object in the PD window the
console keeps looking for the setup function in the code, which is of course
not there. Am I missing something? Everything else seems to go OK...

I hate to keep bothering people on the list but this is the only place I can
get decent help...
I'm working on an important project and I'm stuck. This might sound like a
dumb question, but could someone describe to me the process of reading from
buffer containing a sound file so I may code my object to do this and
manipulate the samples within it?
What I want to be able to do is read little groups of samples (grains) from
the waveform in the buffer, manipulate them (add envelope, …
[View More]rearrange) and
then output them - in other words a granular synth object, much like
syncgrain~ but I want to work up from scratch.
Thank you very much,
Matt
