Summary: cyclone/comment takes part of comment as classname on save
Initial Comment:
When saving a [cyclone/comment] object, the classname is replaced by the first atom in the comment section of that object whenever that patch is saved.
This is probably related to the bug fix for including the namespace prefix when saving.
To reproduce:
- open a new patch
- create a comment object with some text in it
- save and close the patch
- reopen that patch, and voila

Summary: PiDiP ascii renderer eats mac hard disks
Initial Comment:
...iknow, it sounds like a tabloid headline.
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I upgraded to pd 0.39.3-extended-rc5 recently and began messing around with the PiDiP ascii renderer. Early in a day of testing I loaded an 11-second, 640x480 quicktime clip compressed with the H.264 codec into pdp_ascii-help.pd and gotâŠnothing. The patch became completely unresponsive to mouse clicks and I ended up having to quit and relaunch pd and X11. I eventually discovered that pdp_ascii works with the Sorenson video 3 codec and spent a happy hour turning bits of things into ascii art.
Then I noticed something strange. The hard drive was nearly full. As I watched in shock, it filled up completely. A couple of minutes of searching found the culprit: my console log file for the session was 36 gigs. Turns out that all that space was taken up by a single message, âskipping corrupted frameâ, spit out over and over again at the ridiculous rate of 4 megs/sec. Trying to load the H.264 quicktime is what initiated the loop. Iâve been able to replicate it and came up with the following info: the bug runs independent of pd and X11, hogs 80% of the CPU, and since for some reason the process is tied to the OSX loginwindow process I was only able to kill it by logging out.
Cheers,
Michael

stupid me, but is the console log file part of os-x, pd-extended or did
you add it manually?
(imho, writing things (even if there are lots of things) to the console
does not really qualify as a bug)
furthermore, the log-message is likely not being emitted by pidip, but
rather by the underlying decoding library (libquicktime);
so the bug report should probably go there instead of here

Summary: audio math objects don't handle one-element lists as floats
Initial Comment:
If you send a one-float-element list, such as [list 123(, into the right inlet of a [*~], [+~], [-~], etc., you get the following error message:
"error: inlet: expected 'signal' but got 'list'"
Instead, the one-element list should be treated just as a float, since:
1) [*~], [+~] etc. accept floats on its right inlet
2) a one-float-element list is supposed to be equivalent to a float to all effects in PD.
All control objects (including [route] and math operators) handle one-float-element lists as floats, and one-symbol-element lists as symbols.

Summary: empty lists != bang ([list-split] outputs bad bang type)
Initial Comment:
Hi,
Attached it a patch demonstrating the bug. [list-split] outputs a bang on the right outlet when the input is a bang, but it seems to invisibly add the "list" selector so that the bang is unrecognized by, for example, [until] (giving the error: inlet: expected 'bang' but got 'list')
Cheers
Luke

I'd say it was a bug in Pd core. Rather than adding special cases to
*all* objects, I think the "distribute lists over inlets if there is no
method for 'list'" code should notice empty lists and call the 'bang'
method, furthermore extra 'list' methods for objects that don't really need
them should be removed. Both these steps are necessary to maintain the
("list",{}) == ("bang",{}) invariant in more places with less code.
Something like this (totally untested, so be warned):

I guess you mean [list split] (without dash). If it's a bug it's one in
[until] I believe. [list split] outputs a zero-element list in your
example, which is what the help-file says it would do. Usually empty lists
get converted to a bang. I suppose this happens at an object's inlet.
However [until] doesn't convert - probably it needs to get a
until_list2(...) method?
(Btw: Better avoid whitespace in the names of example patches uploaded
here. I uploaded a new version and deleted the old.)

Summary: libquicktime0 dependency on gutsy
Initial Comment:
depends on libquicktime0 which is not availiable for
gutsy.
hackish & evil workaround posted by IOhannes:
newer versions of debian (and therefore ubuntu) have replaced
libquicktime0 (0.9.x) by libquicktime1 (1.0.x)
most likely these are binary compatible and you could install the old
package with an override-dependencies flag.
(you might also have to symlink the /usr/lib/libquicktime.so.0 to
/usr/lib/libquicktime.so)
