Summary: PiDiP ascii renderer eats mac hard disks
Initial Comment:
...iknow, it sounds like a tabloid headline.
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I upgraded to pd 0.39.3-extended-rc5 recently and began messing around with the PiDiP ascii renderer. Early in a day of testing I loaded an 11-second, 640x480 quicktime clip compressed with the H.264 codec into pdp_ascii-help.pd and gotâŠnothing. The patch became completely unresponsive to mouse clicks and I ended up having to quit and relaunch pd and X11. I eventually discovered that pdp_ascii works with the Sorenson video 3 codec and spent a happy hour turning bits of things into ascii art.
Then I noticed something strange. The hard drive was nearly full. As I watched in shock, it filled up completely. A couple of minutes of searching found the culprit: my console log file for the session was 36 gigs. Turns out that all that space was taken up by a single message, âskipping corrupted frameâ, spit out over and over again at the ridiculous rate of 4 megs/sec. Trying to load the H.264 quicktime is what initiated the loop. Iâve been able to replicate it and came up with the following info: the bug runs independent of pd and X11, hogs 80% of the CPU, and since for some reason the process is tied to the OSX loginwindow process I was only able to kill it by logging out.
Cheers,
Michael

Is this still a problem on 0.40.3-extended test releases? It is
reproducable?

stupid me, but is the console log file part of os-x, pd-extended or did
you add it manually?
(imho, writing things (even if there are lots of things) to the console
does not really qualify as a bug)
furthermore, the log-message is likely not being emitted by pidip, but
rather by the underlying decoding library (libquicktime);
so the bug report should probably go there instead of here

Summary: add ~ and env var support to paths when opening files
Initial Comment:
Created sys_expandpath() to replace ~ with $HOME and expand env vars on Windows. This function is then used in sys_trytoopenone() so that ~ works with all opening operations.

Hi,
The above objects seem to be broken in pd-extended (0.39.3) Ubuntu
Hardy. I get the error:
load_object: Symbol "setup_eblosc0x7e" not found
Other creb objects work OK though. Anyone got any ideas what the problem
is before I start digging around.

Summary: Pd 0.41-2 doesn't close in Mac Os X
Initial Comment:
I found that if I close Pd using the 'close' button in the console window (the red x in the top left of the window in Mac OS) having a patch opened, it let a process running in background. It doesn't happen if I close it from the File menu, tough.
I'm using Pd version 0.41-2 in a MacBook running Mac Os X ver. 10.5.2

There is no problem for me using pd-vanilla 0.41-4 on 10.4.11, can anyone
confirm it is fixed on 10.5?

The patch can be an empty one, i.e., start Pd, create a new patch, close
Pd using the close button in the console window. Check the processes
running in the background and I find that Pd is still running.

Under Mac OS 10.4.11 i can't reproduce. Using the same version of Pd,
of-cause. SO it might be "10.5" specific.
But, is there anything special going on in the patch you have opened (when
you close the console window by click the red button)? I tried a few
different things: Saved/not saved, with or without an instance of an
object, with or without DSP turned on.

Summary: pd-0.41-2.msw.exe does not include [expr]
Initial Comment:
When I install pd-0.41-2.msw.exe on a machine where pd has not been previously installed, it does not include the [expr] object. So, things like exponential.pd in the Audio Examples portion of the documentation don't work.
If installed over an older version of Pd, it apparently picks up the expr library from the older version. Thus masking the bug.

Summary: windows vista always crash
Initial Comment:
It's impossible to use puredata on windows vista :-(
I use pd-extended 0.39-3
I have this patch :
#N canvas 0 0 458 308 10;
#X floatatom 89 13 5 0 0 0 - - -;
#X floatatom 171 13 5 0 0 0 - - -;
#X floatatom 134 123 5 0 0 0 - - -;
#X obj 133 48 t b f;
#X obj 134 84 /;
#X connect 0 0 4 0;
#X connect 1 0 3 0;
#X connect 3 0 4 0;
#X connect 3 1 4 1;
#X connect 4 0 2 0;
you can view it (with the crash) on : http://pazelty.free.fr/fichiers/pd-crash.jpg
if I divise by exeample 3 by 11 the result on the botom atom is "ÿÿ272" in the print it's correct
after I can swith
3 / 12 = 0.25
3 / 13 = ÿÿ230
3 / 9 = ÿÿ333
some number swith every time :
3 / 32 can be "£" or "'" or "Ñ" or "Î" and many many other thing like japones characters and others...
I'm not sure but I thing more than half calcul are not good.
This is a graphical bug. It's not very very serious. But they are more serious.
If I press on an atom on the top, and I change the value non stop by mooving my mouse up and down, pd need about 10 seconds for crash. It's can change : 2 second or 1 minutes but always it will crash.
if you use a slider who output no interger number it's exactly the same bug.
as well If you make a not integer multiplication : 26 * 21.3 = ÿÿ6.7
As well for + and - operator
I think they are many other operator who is impact by this bug but I will not test all
------
thanks you very mutch for puredata it's a fantastic programe even if they have some bugs.
If I can help you, I'm available...
and ... Happy new years

Initial Comment:
Hi,
in Pd-0.39.3-extended-rc5 the attached patch crashes on closing when I make some changes and then klick on 'discard changes'.
Pd-0.39.3-extended-rc5 is the only version where this happens. and it happens only with arrays which have $0 in the name and only when dsp is running.

Summary: -open doesn't work from command line
Initial Comment:
In the 0.39.2 versions of Pd-extended, the command line
flags are ignored when launching with
"Pd.app/Contents/Resources/bin/pd -open ..."
This works fine in Pd-extended 0.38.4 and Pd 0.39-2
from Miller.

It seems command line flags are still a problem on OS X:
#dataflow 14:40 < stffn> ClaudiusMaximus: but the instructions in the
email about running `pd -path src/ -lib lua` from the pdlua dir don't work
on macosx since Pd on macosx have bad support for startup flags. '-help'
works, but...

Just so you know, Claude, this didn't work. But when I put both the
lua.pd_darwin and pd.lua into the 'extras' folder of the application I
compiled it against, everything appears to work fine.
