hi list
what happend, as i was opening a patch with quiet a lot of gui elements
tgl´s sliders rediobutt´s and arrays, and non of the elements
was usable for changing visible the values. even the numberbox does not
change the numbers, the only thing which is working is the set $1
messagebox and the tgl. the value itself is possible to change and if you
close the window and open it again, it refreshes. nothing is shown in the
arrays.
this happens on windows vista with both of …
[View More]the two last official extended
versions
thanks in advance

Hello all,
I am new to this list but met Hans and others at ISCL in Brazil a few weeks
ago. Maybe this subject was discussed earlier, and if so, please forgive me.
I was looking through pd-extended build farm, scripts and compilation stuff.
A good idea, actually, but difficult to maintain or distribute through many
maintainers, as debian project does. Going on this direction, I would like
to propose "a debian way" to package pd, abstractions and extra externals.
This intention is related to …
[View More]many AMD64 problems on installing, compiling
and using pd-extended. My sugestion is to use something like that:
puredata - puredata binaries and main documentation
puredata-dev - include files and libs
puredata-doc - extra documentation
puredata-ext-XX - package containing a single external
puredata-abs-XX - package containing a single abstraction
puredata-full - a metapackage with all packages in Depedencies list
Why do this?
1) You can build everything separetely. This prevents that one bug in one
package breaks all the building farm
2) Many people can manage packages in a distributed way and minimize Hans
work
3) We can put these packages on debian official repo if we follow debian
policy
4) Users does not have to install all externals/abstractions, as we have in
pd-extended
5) We separate pd-source from the extra stuff
6) We can build a simple manual to patch developers create her own packages
and distribute to users to install with an apt-get
I already started doing this with pd vanilla and one external (ff) to test
these ideas and it is working on AMD64.
http://ftp.sacix.org/sacix/pool/main/p/puredata/http://ftp.sacix.org/sacix/pool/main/p/pd-ff/
what do you think about it?
Bye, global

This is what I think.. pd-extended could be only a meta-package.

I don't know, but I don't think is the only reason.. when I talked to Hans
he told me that pd-extended was created to join in one place a bunch of
externals/abstractions... because many PD users were making good patches and
pubilshed them on their blogs, own repos, etc. So it was dificult to users
(or new users) to find those patches... so, if you need a PD with many
patches, just install pd-extended and you will get it! This is a good idea!
I love it, but not the way of making this happen... :D
I have not talked to him, but I think the guy that maintains the

I really don't think the problem is the version of pd.. as we don't have
problems on having different firefox versions depending on your target
(stable, testing, unstable)...

Maybe the subject of the thread is misleading... we can distribute or
upstream authors can distribute the original source tarballs as other
projects do... than I can build a debian package, you can build a gentoo,
others can build for redhat, etc..
And I think this will increase the work, comparable to the actual model..
but we can have more hands now to distribute the work! :D
Modularity is the magic word for me. I find myself deconstructing the

hehee.. this is what I think.. and started to do to my AMD64 computer...

huahuahaa... you are like me... new user of PD, a good C programmer and
junior at debian packaging.. besides that, I am just suggesting the way
debian developers think (which is documented at debian policy and package
maintainers guide)... I think they are smart enough to tell us that separate
things are better than create a monolitic package... I trust on them.. hauha

Anyone like this idea and can help me to do this work? Or have other
suggestions?

Summary: Makefile use "pd_src" for path-to-pd-without-src
Initial Comment:
several makefiles use the "pd_src" variable to point to /where/is/my/pd/ rather than /where/is/my/pd/src.
this makes the code unreadable, as the variable name suggests that it holds the path to the Pd-sources, esp when it comes to $(pd_src)/src and similar
please use a more general variable name for this, e.g. "PD_PATH"
(i would suggest upper-case according to http://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html#toc_Using-Variables).
done for the ext13 skeleton Makefile

I am fine with a clearer naming scheme, but it would take more than just
this little change. 'pd_src' goes with 'externals_src',
'abstractions_src', 'doc-src', etc.

Hello,
I'm having a bit of a hard time installing pd-extended on Debian Testing, and
would like to help getting this into a better shape.
The package 0.41.4 package found at http://puredata.info/downloads and in the
repo cannot be installed due to some dependency problems (details below).
The 0.41.4 source package failed to generate a package, among some other
troubles the Debian/control file missed a comma.
I figured since I was going to have to fix stuff anyway, I might just as well
go …
[View More]with the lastest CVS version. I fetched the source as documented on
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/GettingPdSource with
checkout-developer-layout.sh. After fixing a couple of compile errors
( https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2862191&group_id=55736&ati… )
this produced a .deb file. However, this .deb claims to be version '0.40.3',
and points to some dependencies that do not exist in Debian testing (e.g. jack
is just called libjack0, not libjack0.100.0-0.
Is this '0.30.4' version a mistake, or did I get the wrong sources?
I see only one Debian/control file,
pure-data/packages/linux_make/debian/control . Shouldn't there be one for each
kind of Debian package that can be generated
(stable/testing/unstable/ubuntu/etc)?
Regards,
Arnout
As promised, the dependency problems:
arnouten@bird:~/progs/pd/pure-data/packages/linux_make$ sudo apt-get install pd-extended

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Depends: libmagick++10 but it is not installable
