Summary: bsaylor's [pvoc~] and [partconv~] not found
Initial Comment:
[pvoc~] and [partconv~] externals cannot be found because the path isn't added by libdir (the rest of the externals in the folder appear to be in extra/flatspace, so they can be found. adding /usr/local/lib/pd/extra/bsaylor to the paths list fixes this.
Should the bsaylor externals in flatspace be removed and the libdir path added?

Summary: http-links do not open...
Initial Comment:
when i click on "Help->report bug" i get the following error on the stderr and nothing happens:
/usr/bin/gnome-open 'http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=55736&atid=478070'
Error showing url: There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location.
same with all other http URLs.
the IRC-one works fine (it also uses gnome-open)
this is on debian lenny/sid with Pd-0.40.3-extended-20080514-debian-stable-i386.deb
i am using KDE and not gnome.
i have never touched the settings of gnome-open, so i am not sure why it does not work...
most likely (well, i am sure that) this is problem of gnome-open; however i think it does not add to a positive first glance...

Since you are using KDE, I recommend:
apt-get remove gnome-open
The URLs in the Help menu work for me on Ubuntu, Debian/GNOME, Mac OS X,
and Windows. I don't use KDE at all, so if you can make it work better
there, please do.

Summary: use FILENAME_MAX for all filenames, since its < MAXPDSTRING
Initial Comment:
On Windows, FILENAME_MAX is much smaller than MAXPDSTRING, so I replaced MAXPDSTRING with FILENAME_MAX everywhere I could find that is related to filenames. FILENAME_MAX is a POSIX standard macro for defining the max length of a complete filename.
The current situation could result in crashes on Windows.

Summary: add ~ and env var support to paths when opening files
Initial Comment:
Created sys_expandpath() to replace ~ with $HOME and expand env vars on Windows. This function is then used in sys_trytoopenone() so that ~ works with all opening operations.
