Summary: fix bug 1795369 (red border GOP)
Initial Comment:
This fixes the bug:
Red rectangle is drawn on the parent patch when creating the first object in a GOP subpatch without it's window open by sending a message to the subpatch.
This is a patch against pd-0.41-4.

Summary: red border GOP
Initial Comment:
hey,
when I have a subpatch that contains no element in it, but is a GOP, then I don't see the red GOP border.
that does not seem to be a problem. BUT...
when I use this empty subpatch and create an object in it via message command, then that red border suddenly is visible in the parent patch.
see attached file.

umm, sorry, that was graph_vis (g_graph.c) instead of garray_vis
(g_array.c).

The reason, I think, why red border doesn't show up when no elements
present is: The same GOP technique is used to show the contents of a
subpatch that contains data structures - for example an audio array. In
this case you really don't want the red border to be drawn over the
graphical representation of data structures, do you? So, red border gets
drawn only when there are elements which are at the same time not data
structures. This I wouldn't consider a bug then. What's your opinion?
Now, why it gets drawn when an object is created via message command: the
red border gets drawn in the garray_vis function (g_array.c). This function
apparently gets called every time an object is created, exactly because
that's the point when the red border might need to be drawn. I think the
reason why when you have the subpatch open the GOP on the parent patch is
covered over with a grey square is just to avoid the problem of having to
visualize GOP on the parent and the subpatch window at the same time but
differently (for example: on the parent patch without the red border).
But the code obviously doesn't handle the case when a GOP's window is
closed and when you create an object it calls garray_vis which draws the
red square. Therefore we should add some checking inside garray_vis.
This is my idea. Maybe I'll try to solve the problem or I hope this text
will be of help to whoever else.

Summary: after Save As..., the path remains at the location
Initial Comment:
If you open an instance of an abstraction, then Save
As... to somewhere else, the path of that abstraction
stays at the original location, even though the file
was saved to the new location. Clicking File->Save
will then save to the original location rather than the
new location.
Tested on Mac OS X with Pd-0.39.2,
Pd-0.39.2-extended-test5, and Pd-0.40-0.

Strange, I looked into this. It seems that just the title bar isn't being
updated, but the patch does think of itself in the new location. [getdir]
will show the new location. It seems that when canvas_rename() is called
inside of canvas_savetofile(), the directory is not yet updated, when
things get to canvas_reflecttitle(), and therefore canvas_getdir() returns
the old location rather than the new one. Since this is now cosmetic, I'll
leave it for another day.

"Save As..." means write out a new file. A new file means a
new class. The instance that started this process remains
the old class, therefore is no longer related to this new class.
This means its inconsistent to have this instance remain as
the original class.
Also, from a usability perspective, it makes things much
more coherent. In every other app that I use, when I do
"Save As...", that current view changes to the new file. It
does not remain on the old file.

I'm note sure if that's a bug, though I agree, that it's
confusing. But if you open an instance of an abstraction and
save that under a different name, this action doesn't affect
the name of the abstraction's instance as it is used in the
parent patch: This one will stay the same. If you want to
use your newly saved abstraction you need to rename the
instance to the new name as well first.

is this still an issue with the recent nightly builds of Pd-extended or
Pd-0.41-4? Tcl/Tk has been upgraded on Windows to Tcl/Tk 8.4.18. I think
Miller is still using an old build.

Yes, the panel is still open when Pd exits. What Tcl/Tk version are you
using when testing?

So does the crash happen with the open panel is still open? If so, that
sounds like a Tcl/Tk issue maybe. I know that there are a number of
updates available.

I have this happen quite a lot on my Windows development machine. The way
I reproduced it involved opening a dialog and then the next open dialog
browsing my desktop for a few seconds. Pd would exit immediately with a 1.
The debugger never caught anything either.

this has been happening a lot in my computer lately. I guess
there's a conflict between openpanel and window's
commentaries to files.
my mouse has automatic selection (follows the pointer, I
only have to click once to open a file). when I use
openpanel after the 1st time, if I'm not fast selecting a
file it *will almost for sure* crash pd.
no example patch necessary, just any patch with openpanel.
apparently the chances increase if a patch with GOPs was
opened (it's only a hunch).

This is the only information I can give, because the
behaviour is erratic, and I can't establish a pattern. the
only thing I know for sure is that it doesn't happen on the
first time.
example patch isn't necessary, just banging any openpanel -
it's a general behaviour, not specific to any singular
patch.

>Summary: on OSX, made canvas windows show dirty in OS-native style
Initial Comment:
This is a patch to add proxy icons (a tiny representation of the file being worked on in the window's titlebar; it can be dragged to grab a reference to the file for drag and drop, or right/command-clicked to get the parent folders of the file). The patch also adds a dot in the close button when the Pdpatch is dirty, consistent with other OS X apps.
The patch is untested; Pd-Vanilla doesn't seem to support the Tk attributes necessary (for reasons I don't understand), but Pd-Extended does (hardwiring wm attributes $name -modified 0 -titlepath
{insertPathHere} in pd.tk's pdtk_canvas_new works in pd-e but not in pd-v).

I uploaded a version of Luke Iannini's proxy_icon_and_modified_state.patch
fixed to eliminate crash (caused by using %f in sys_vgui for an int value).
Also, made the title bar fully Mac OS X-style.
Pd-vanilla uses an old version of Tcl/Tk, that's probably why it doesn't
work there. If Pd-vanilla is built against a recent version of Tcl/Tk,
then I'll bet it'd work.

I tried this with the latest from branches/pd-extended/v0-40 and I am
getting a lot of crashes. It didn't seem to change the window behavior
either. Are there some changes to u_main.tk that are missing from the
patch, perhaps? I'll try to troubleshoot it more later.

Hi all,
for the MacOS version of PD (i think irrelevant which one) the color

makes it impossible to really pick a color.
Composing a color works, but the buttons (test label etc.) don't show
the color as well.
