Summary: mlock fix
Initial Comment:
this patch will cause the os not to overcommit memory
when memory locking is enabled. this will reduce the
probability of a segfault after memory allocation

I'm not sure this works on both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels... I've had
trouble compiling something like this before. I'd have to test
it carefully on several generations of linux to be sure.

Summary: patch for native alsa sequencer midi support
Initial Comment:
The patch allows pd to be connected to different
sources and sinks of midi messages through the alsa
sequencer natively.
It lets pd open 1 or more sequencer inputs or outputs.
Alsa midi support is selected at compile time, if alsa
headers are found alsa midi support will be compiled
instead of oss.
All midi events work ok, i think probably raw midi does
not.

I didn't look closely, but I think to do this right would
require
actually giving a run-time choice between ALSA and OSS MIDI
systems. A big job.

Here is the patch and s_midi_alsa.c file as I use it in the
Debian package currently. It seems that the author of the
patch does not have to time to update it, or probably he
just isn't aware of problems, so take it with a grain of
salt. Also we have to check for the multiple devices problem
steve.long
mentions.

apparently [notein] for channels above 16 works as expected,
17-32 coming from the second device and so on, but [noteout]
only sends to the first device, chans 17-32 send to device 1
just like 1-16, as do 33-48, etc.

there is a bug when no alsa devices are present (or if
they can't be opened). Attached addon patch fixes the problem.

Summary: check for too long GUI string
Initial Comment:
currently PD doesn't notice when the GUI code passed
to the ring buffer is too long. Patch will post an error
message to the console - further action could be taken.

Summary: unlock sys_lock while send_dac is blocking
Initial Comment:
Drivers could sleep while send_dac is running (and return
SENDDACS_SLEPT)... make this time available for
background processing.
Can there be done any harm with PD messaging while
send_dac ?

Took it (0.39test2) -- I'm just hoping locking mutexes is
real real
cheap when nobody is really using this feature.

Initial Comment:
* various #defines intended to reduce warnings in MSVC
create warnings in GCC
* catch stuff in s_entry and dllexport stuff in m_pd is
unnecessary/broken with GCC
* couldnt find TCL/wish.exe if in system PATH
* .pdrc wasnt being read on windows, where it is called
pd.ini and can be located in pd/ or ~/ (portions from

I'm not sure what to do with "pd.ini" since I'm trying to phase
out "pdrc" already. I could take the other changes, but
have taken
so many other patches today I'm afraid of dropping a patch
in halfway.

Summary: gui: drag&drop / mousewheel
Initial Comment:
mousewheel to scroll patch window, normal is vertical,
shift-scroll is sideways.. you can still bind to wheel
events inside a widget and override the canvas'..
drag&drop requires tkdnd.sourceforge.net, if you dont
have it installed nothing happens.. drop onto the top
window (with the console) and theyre opened in current
instance, or keep a palette of abstractions to drop on
a canvas:

Summary: s_loader.c: osx external loading
Initial Comment:
...years ago, the NSLINKMODULE_OPTION_PRIVATE flag was
introduced to NSLinkModule() in an effort to prevent pd
from crashing when a library is loaded that has
duplicate symbols to an already loaded library...sure,
it's desirable to not crash, but this flag has the side
effect of artificially partitioning the loaded symbols
such that we can't access one library easily from
another...
...so, this patch removes the PRIVATE flag and adds
another RETURN_ON_ERROR flag, which works as
advertised...I've also added a small bit of code to
spit out some info about what the error was, and in
which file...
...another point to consider is the linker flag
-flat_namespace, and whether it is needed at all
anymore (the default would be -twolevel_namespace)...

Check out externals/build/darwin/makefile. Its been using
-bundle -bundle_loader ../path/to/pd successfully for a
while now.
externals/OSCx is using -bundle_loader.. but has
-flat_namespace, so maybe that should be changed as well.

...after further exploration with linking and loading other
externals, I think we can leave -flat_namespace behind and
just use something like the following:
PREFIX = $(HOME)/pd-0.38-4/
LFLAGS = -bundle -bundle_loader $(PREFIX)/bin/pd
...notice that we don't need to say "-two_level_namespace",
because it is default...without the -bundle_loader bit, you
get all kinds of problems with undefined symbols...
