So unfortunately, the Gem/OSX auto-build saga is not quite done. Its building ok, but this happens when I try to use it:
/Applications/Pd-0.39.2-extended-test5.app/Contents/Resources/ Scripts/../extra/Gem.pd_darwin: dlopen(/Applications/Pd-0.39.2- extended-test5.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts/../extra/Gem.pd_darwin, 10): Symbol not found: __Z16HaveValidContextv Referenced from: /Applications/Pd-0.39.2-extended-test5.app/ Contents/Resources/Scripts/../extra/Gem.pd_darwin Expected in: flat namespace
Gem: can't load library
Here's the whole compilation log, the Gem part is almost at the bottom:

alright, this is a leftover from the olde days. a fix should be on the way to the CVS...

http://autobuild.puredata.info/auto-build/latest/logs/2006-09-19_03.15.01_Da...
badbad link... since the filename was stripped from the rest of the URI, i went to http://autobuild.puredata.info/auto-build/latest/logs/ and opened *_Darwin_pd-macosx104-*_pd-extended*.txt and searched for 5 minutes any sign of Gem (but did not succeed, since 2006-09-19 ws yesterday) ;-)
anyhow, would it make sense to not include the "deleting *.o" lines in the logs? are they of any value?

Hi, Hans
try it with the plain 0.40 test version of Pd and let us know if it works.
thanks, Stefano

I just thought of something. Does Gem need the -flat_namespace option?
"-bundle -undefined suppress -flat_namespace"
The rest of Pd-extended is compiled with
"-bundle -bundle_loader=/path/to/pd/bin/pd"
This by default uses the Mac OS X two-level namespace, and checked to make sure the symbols exist.

Hi, yes, I think so: I read somewhere on apple developers site that it's better to use -bundle -undefined suppress -flat_namespace" for dynamic libraries.

as a complete noob on os-x linking, i totally trust jamie here: he came up with the bundle-loader and _deprecated_ it in favour of flat-namespace. i guess the correct way would be, to make the other externals use flat-namespace too. probably he can tell you more about it.
btw: this has _nothing_ to do with the problem you were experiencing: the "HaveValidContext" function has been used on OSX, to avoid crashes. this has now been fixed otherwise (by creating a helper openGL context), and therefore HaveValidContext() has been removed from all files. however, it has been forgotten in Vertex/vertex_model.cpp - i have fixed this now.
