thanks for the support.
i was wondering if there is any hardware requirements (gfx hardware) for getting gem running under linux with software openglrendering. (glxgears works just fine)
if you seriously want to use gem then u need hardware accelleration. in linux this is done via DRI modules. u have to have a look at dri.sourceforge.net if your card is supported. if u have a nvidia card then u should install the nvidia driver from nvidia website as the linux natice drivers do not support DRI.
you can test if u have hardware acceleration with: glxinfo it should give u something like: direct rendering: yes and a lot od supported opengl extensions
after hiting the gemhead button on any demopatch a blackbox with nothing inside appears. got some "cant create double bufferd...." error and thats it.
thats because u have no hardware rendering
ok, so gem requires hardwarerendering. well nice to know. thats it for me and gem for the moment. if i only had asked that question 2 weeks earlier.... ;)

no it does not require it, you should be able to plaz with the example patches, but the performance sucks without hwa. maybe there is something else ...: u could compile it (as far as i understood) u can load it (-||-) the buffer warning u can ignore open a simple patch zb 01.basic/01.redSquare.pd click the create message turn on rendering with the |1( message box connected to the gemwin object
if then a white square appears it works, if not then there are still some other issues
