Hello,
I would like to know if one of you has already got this behavior with Gem and, if yes, how he resolved this problem :
When i create the Gem window with [offset 0 0, border 0, dimen 3840 3600, create, 1(, i can't see it. Have to switch two times (with ALT+Tab) to see it. This is not good for my installation because i would like to automatize the Gem window creation (there will be nobody to start application). Thanx for your help. ++

I made different tests. 1) with 'topmost' message (after and before the creation of the Gem window) : it doesn't work 2) create the Gem window only on one screen (and in fullscreen with 'border 0' or 'fullscreen 1') : it doesn't work 3) create the Gem window on one screen or on several screens (without 'border 0') : it works.
So, i have a problem when in use 'border 0'. It seems i have a problem in my configuration ? Do you know where i have to search ?
To finish, there is another strange behavior when i reset, create and destroy the Gem window many times, i don't get the same FPS (using abstraction [realFPS]) for exactly the same scene ! The framerate stay to 0 the first time, go to 50 the second time and go to 20 or 25 the third time. I'm gonna to be crazy ! :) ++

i never use ubuntu 11.04. it's the only thing that is different than working configuration.

look like the windows is invisible (or notcreated), so that rendering is not really turn on.
go to 50 the second time and go to 20 or 25 the third time.
after a reset, gem goes to default 20fps. so, it's normal (unless you send frame 50 after the reset).

I wanted to say, this happen when the Gem window is created and visible.
go to 50 the second time and go to 20 or 25 the third time.

Yep true. But I tried without the reset and the framerate goes between 20 and 50 ! i will investigate more further. Thanx. ++

do you really have 0fps, or is it a buf from this abstration?

A kludge workaround but if you can't get the Gem windows to be the focus, active windows using Gem you could force them to be focus (and therefore visible) using Devilspie. I've done this sort of trick a lot and it works great: Http://live.gnome.org/DevilsPie

Thanx John,
I put 'wmctrl' on the back burner to use it if i can't resolve my problem. But Devilspie seems to be more simpler. I will give it a try. Thanx for the info. ++

It seems it is OK today. i get the good framerate. But i still get the problem with 'border 0'. With the window manager 'sawfish' (with 'border 1' to gewmin), i can remove the title bar. I don't know if it is a good choice (is it better to have a gemwin with 'border 0' than 'border 1' in term of performance ?). Thanx. ++
