Hey,
I just talked with IOhannes about getting added to the pd-gem sourceforge project as a developer. He told me to post here in the same style as pd-dev.
For anyone who might not know me, I've been using Pd since 2000, I was a lurker for a couple years, then 2002 starting posting and working on Pd itself. I am currently the main developer of the Pd- extended package, and am working USB HID and arduino interfaces, as well as the mapping library.
I would like to be added as a gem dev so that I can update and maintain the Gem help and example patches. I could also fix very minor bugs, like a couple I recently submitted, but I have no plans to start writing Gem objects or extensions since my OpenGL knowledge is theory only, no practice.
So now... it's lazy consensus time!

I guess I am the only other active GEM developer, and adding you is fine with me. Consensus!
We still really need a Windows developer. If you know anyone...

hi chris, we are sitting here at the montreal beach, waiting for our drinks, and checking the pd list. georg holzmann says, he also wants to have developer access for gem-dec, at the moment he always checks in from his brother's account. iohannes and hans think that will be ok. I am marius and I don't want to be a gem developer (for now)... marius.

So... nudge nudge. Has the mandatory, lazy consensus waiting period expired? Can I be added? I have a new gemwin help patch to check in :D

as you can see, i slowly shake off the dust of my holidayish conventionist attitude and start working again. i have added you.

PS: and i will revert the 00.VideoSimple.pd if the only 2 remaining messages are "enumerate" and "dialog" :-)

I'll test it on GNU/Linux and make sure it works. What's missing? If you want to use the original version as a test patch, it would make sense to label it that, like 05.TestVideo. I think that the first example patch, which is called "simple video" should be simple. It currently is not. I've watched many newbies get totally stumped by that patch as it is.

probably it is a misnomer then.
btw, why would you want the "enumerate" and "dialog" messages in the patch? a really simple patch would be like
[gemhead] | [pix_video] | [pix_texture] | [square]
period. what is wrong with that?

That would work nicely, as long as it'll work on basically on machines. I haven't tested it widely yet.

Thanks!

Hey Chris,
Busy doing my MSc... I showed this at the PDCON:
I'll have some videos up there soon if all goes well.
How about you?

fine with me too. (an introduction would nevertheless be nice, just for the fun of it :-))
apart from that: do you think we should ask daniel heckenberg, gÃŒnter geiger, tom schouten, tim blechmann and thomas music from the developers (after explicitely asking them of course, whether they think they will find time to do something regarding Gem in the next months)?

Mr. Music is in the news on The Onion:

but frankly I didn't know that this was his real name.

I get reports from time to time that Daniel is indeed alive and well somewhere in Australia, but his contributions to GEM are indeed over. It would be great to have future input, even if it it just advice, from Guenter, Tom and Tim although I personally have not had much contact with them in the past few years.
I'm not sure who Mr Music is but I'm guessing this is actually Herr Musil?
I have been trying to persuade a developer friend of mine to join for a few years now. He's primarily a Mac developer with strong GL skills who does custom programming for his own artwork.
Again, the position for a Windows developer needs filling. Maybe one of the vvvv fellows who watch this list have a suggestion?
Hey all,
For those who don't know me:
Ben Bogart is an artist working in installation, audio-visual improvisation and software development. His installations create content live in response to their sensed environment. He works in an Open Source context and makes all the software he develops, that is of general use available under the GPL. Physical modeling, chaos, feedback systems and evolutionary algorithms have been used to inform and engage in his creative process. Ben is the author of the pixelTANGO visual performance software hosted by the Societe des arts technologues in Montreal, Canada. “Resurfacing” is Ben’s latest project, produced in collaboration with Donna Marie Vakalis. Ben is now a graduate student in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University and is a member of the international art collective Goto10. Serving as the Project Manager for the Pure-Data Documentation Project (PDDP), Ben is working on a curriculum for electronic media arts based solely around Open Source tools. Ben’s current work deals with computational implementations of embodied creativity and memory.
I'm looking forward to working with Gem documentation as part of the PDDP project and contributing examples here and there.
Oh and I've been using Gem for all my art projects the last few years.
