yes: Gem now uses (if found available) libv4l/libv4l2. this should make v4l2 devices "just work" (tm or not).
successfully tested on an eeePC 901GO with a uvccamera by Chinoy.
afaik, libv4l is is intrepid.

i can confirm that is is also working here! (i've got the same cam than the eeePC / intrepid)
