Hey all,
Are there any options for getting HD (1080p) video input (in Gem) on Linux?
I'm starting a project where SD will not likely cut it, as I'll be doing lots of cropping.
I realize it would work out of the box on MacOS, but I'm staying away from that.
An HD IP camera may be the way to go, does Gem on Linux load network video streams?
Aside: Since HD will be a lot more CPU usage, anyone working on VDPAU support in Gem?
Thanks all! .b.
The Blackmagic Intensity has Linux drivers and captures uncompressed analog or HDMI signals. It is not supported directly by V4L, so you would have to do some programming to get it working.
It is a nice card for the money ($199) though.

Thanks Chris,
I'll look into that. Seems like those cards were talked about on the lumeria list.
So if there is no V4l device driver, then how is it "supported"? I mean if you have to write a driver, would not almost any card work under linux, if you could get the spec info.

afaik, there is a proprietary API (closed sources but "free as in beer") to access those cards under linux. the current svn has a plugin system for the video backend, so it should be fairly easy to include support for these products with Gem.
once you have done that, please send the code :-)
